Does anyone know how the heck I go about setting up this mobile BB on an Eee PC please?
Do I have to have credit on it to be able to access and install at all?
Cheers!

It can be done but not easily. How's your Linux knowledge coming on regarding compiling and installing programs. Basically, these devices think they are clever. But they're not. They are 2 usb devices in one - a pendrive and a modem. Out of the box, they are a pendrive. The pendrive needs no drivers for Windows, and contains an autorun file which then installs the modem driver, then switches the device from pendrive mode to modem mode. Windows detects it as new hardware and finds the drivers that have just been installed. And you're ready to go. It all seems very clever - removing the need for a driver CD and any user intervention to install, but it means if you aren't on Windows then you're pretty much screwed. However, if you can change the mode of the unit from pendrive to modem manually, Linux almost certainly won't need drivers to run it in modem mode. Someone has written a program to do this http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/ But I've never done it so I can only wish you luck. Hopefully as these 'netbook' type machines gain popularity (I think they'll be a big Xmas seller) then maybe more widespread linux use will mean manufacturers supporting the OS more.
Thanks very much for that. Looks like it couldbe very awkward. Luckily for the time being someone nearby has an unprotected wi-fi router so i'm just using that. You'd think people would learn, but i'm not complaining. For the amount i'm using it anyway he wouldn't even notice. Long may his router be switched on and unprotected. I hope using that method is a last resort because it could be too complicated for me. Thanks so much for the help, knowing it CAN be done is a relief.
