Do you think it's better to heat the water with the eggs in to stop them cracking or to drop them into boing water?

I boil the water first in the kettle, drop them in slowly and they don't crack.

best way to stop them cracking is get them to room temp before putting them in boiling water.

    Glad to help.

Drop em in when boiling but....

always hold em over the pan of steam (on aspoon wi holes in) for about 10 -20 seconds first. I find this stops them cracking. (Y)

    I find

.. into the water gently JUST before boiling starts.

Of course, this is no good if you want it fried.

I find cracking them into a shallow pan of boiling oil

makes them taste better, and negates the need for worrying if they crack or not.

    Do I win an egg?

Drop em into boiling water, and leave for 4 mins for soft boiled. Add more time for hard boiled.

You should use a pin and push it into both ends of the egg before putting it in boiling water. Don't push the pin through the shell just make an impression into the outer shell. That way the egg will not crack.

    The things i know!
