Quite simply the greatest British piece of Music ever written.
Just that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSgxX11An_0&feature=featured

It's great. Somehow just captures the tone of Victorian England the power of a great imperial nation.
Happy days.

Personally I prefer the Pomp and Circumstance March No.1
This is Sir Edward himself conducting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gxqFdcZz974
Always sends tingles down my spine. Had it played last week for my ( and Fired's and Posh Tyke's) Mum's funeral as she loved it so much. As you say, simply one of the best pieces of music written ever.
RE: Best British Piece........... his Cello Concerto in E Minor is my favourite piece (the Adagio/Moderato movement especially) But Nimrod is quality too
RE: Best British Piece........... I prefer Jupiter. A lot more open, free, and inspirational I think.
RE: Best British Piece........... The Elgar Cello Concerto is sublime. Especially played by the late Jacqueline du Pre.
