Reading this board I sometimes think that I stand on my own when feeling I think the team is going in the right direction.I like the way we keep posession and dominate teams.I think we've created more chances than some give us credit for.I know that results can influence peoples minds but I honestly believe we're not too far off being a very good team in this league.Just to mention 2 games. The game against Shrewsbury evidently we were poor yet I don't know anyone who doesn't agree that we should have been 6-1 up at half time.Same with Donny 65 % of the play with 11 goal attempts to there 2.That to me is not being negative that says to me we have to be more clinical in front of goal.I recall years ago going to Tranmere the night we lost 6-1,when I tried to tell people we were the best team I was mocked simply because of the result. That night Tranmere had 8 goal attempts and scored 6 we had 23 and scored 1,so once again we were classed as rubbish without knowing the facts.I have a lot of faith in the way we are trying to play and I'm sure we will click into a force in this division sooner than later.
I agree with most of that. Some Barnsley fans can't take to Johnson because he plays one up front and some Barnsley fans can't take to Johnson because they either want Redfearn or Wilson as manager, even if we were playing fifth division football. I'm with you and feel we are dominating games. After the game on Saturday, I heard a load of our fans saying we were **** and deserved to lose. I don't know what game they were watching because we hammered them both halves and unfortunately lost. Johnson with some fans will never win. We're **** when we lose and we're **** when we win.
We had 55% possession against Donny, the 'dominance' has been somewhat exaggerated. The goal aside, the only two other attempts on goal were Harris from inside the box firing at the keepers legs, and Harris with a speculative drive from 25 yards parried by the keeper. If you can tell me another opportunity I'm all ears, mate. We were the better side, of two poor sides on the day, in my opinion of course. It was a dull watch with very few chances. But we retained the ball well in our own third, and, if anybody deserved to win it was us. I remember that Tranmere game. Didn't Aldridge score a hat-trick for em? Seem to remember them scoring from every corner.
At the moment the question should be can we still make the top 2 YES When the answer to that is NO the question changes to can we still make the top 6 YES When and if the answer to that is NO We then have to consider the position. We can't be changing our minds each week after every result. After Crewe it will be either We only beat the bottom of the league or How can we lose to a team at the bottom, not that's 3 points towards our target. Oh dear i'm now labelled a happy clapper !!!
your not on your own. there is such a thing a a silent majority. me - I love the way we defend as a team in their half and hassle them into giving us the ball back. I caan see a plan in action. Its inevitable that we will score goals, we just have to try not to concede as many and score even more
The Donny game was definitely too average teams playing each other. We had the ball a fair bit (like most games) but never looked like scoring though on the balance of play we should have won. I haven't seen us 'dominate' anyone though we have played well in fits and starts all games other than Rochdale and Chesterfield have been close games. We are where we are for a reason a mid table division 3 team. I want Johnson to succeed and don't care if we play 8-1-1 as long as it's good to watch. The current system doesn't appear to work particularly well and we seem to have no alternative if/when it fails. Still it's early days we are about where I thought we would be (though I hadn't realised how ***** the league would be this year).
WE are only dominating teams in terms of possession though, what were those stats the other day 3rd least shot total in the league? I'm all for a passing game and hate hoofball but at some stage you have to turn possession into an attacking threat
