I have to say that after seeing Headingley empty today and poorly attended throughout the 2nd test they have only themselves to blame. I wrote a letter of complaint to them last year after attending an England game but having to spend 40 minutes queuing each time i went for a beer .... Which was a few times as i was entertaining business clients! Compounded with their decision to close the bars after lunch for a period of time (which resulted in even longer delays either side of the closure) I vowed never to go to Headingley again! Every other cricket ground in the country seems to manage capacity crowds without long queues or closures ..... Headingley can't! Unfortunately the lost revenue doesn't help Yorkshire CC ....... Shame the closest ground to me is the worst to watch cricket!
I've entertained clients at all major UK based Test venues and Headingley is always the one that brings out the idiots. Maybe this is why they decide to close the bars for a period? I have never found service a problem, albeit it has (nearly) always been in members areas.
Strange , I thought people went to watch the cricket Cricket fans have been driven away by the antics of the drunks
They have learned from their complaints with more tills on the regular bars, temporary cider stowford press cider bars and this year mobile beer sellers plus the bars are now kept open after the club lobbied the police who were the ones who insisted on closing them. Was there on Saturday and no waiting at all. And it is not only Headingley get it's share of drunks i go to all the grounds up north and in the midlands and the western terrace is tame compared to the Hollies stand at Edgbaston. It is a pity about the crowd but in an Ashes year with tickets at up to £80 for the Aussies most fans select their games and 3 ashes tests are up north so many will have spent a lot on these tests as opposed to an early season one with a higher likelihood of days being rained off. If an ashes test was at Headingley i can assure you it would easily sell out.
What did you expect today? It was pouring with rain most of the day, it's amazing the weather held enough to fit a few overs in. No-one buys 5th day tickets in advance, and when there's little prospect of play, what do you expect? I agree it was weird us winning game in front of one man and his dog, but it's hardly a ringing indictment of a typical Headingley day. I went on Saturday, it was a great day out. Ground almost full, queues at the bar were never more than 2-3 minutes when I went, I find it pretty efficient. I could even take unopened bottles of pop in without taking the lids off, a big improvement! The ODI v Australia is almost sold out already, there aren't 2 seats together anywhere in the West Stand.
I was going to go this year as I love a day on the Western Terrace, but at 40 quid a ticket to play the 2nd worst test playing nation they could go ******. It's only going to get worse as we will soon have an 11th county out of only 18 trying to get cricket games. So then bids for tests go up and the added cost is passed on with an inflated ticket price. With tests here there and everywhere we will lose our indentity as a country too by not always playing at grounds rich with history.
