Another top quality game today. Shame the weather spoiled it. 2 very evenly matched teams making for some great cricket. Massive shame there was only 2 tests.

shame it had to end on that stupid DL method upping required rate by 6 runs per over

If it had started at 10.30am it would have been concluded. Blame the ECB for changing in the start times

That's a little unfair. That's how it's turned out but the weather could have done anything, its England.

We needed 9 an over when the rain came and 13.5 an over when it started. But it's still unfair when it looked like we would win that the rate was upped by 4.5 an over. Didn't think before the series started that Kiwis would be saved by the rain and that i'd be disapointed we aren't winning 2-0.

I think the DL method is regarded as a pretty fair way of deciding cricket matches - unless you lose. :)

Daftest quote of the week by far...and there has been some stiff competition.

The break didn't help us either did it. Always the same whether it is for rain or just a short drinks break. The momentum is lost and wickets fall straight away. If that rain had held off for maybe twenty minutes the Yorkshire pair would have got us home, or at least very close to it.

The D/L calculation was grossly unfair on England but what can you do? It would have been the same for NZ and everyone knows the rules. A barnstorming match ended in a bit of whimper though - shame that.

Was at edgebaston last week and I'm going to Nottingham on Wednesday.... Can't wait!

On the DL last night , it's a pure maths equation and can't take the "feel" of the match into consideration.... We might have won if the rain hadn't come, we could easily have been bowled out and lost however

Got to say a decent bit of captaincy by McCullam; made sure that Boult had completed his overs, had he held him back, England may well have been much closer/ahead of the run rate when the rain came, meaning the revised equation would have been easier.

It was a great match, but it could have been better without the weather. I still fancied New Zealand even without the rain. They were always one wicket away from the win with Jordan injured.

I'm sure the point he's making is if all ODIs start in the morning like test matches it gives more hours in the day to try and finish a match the proper way.

Great ODI, shame about the weather..however The Oval has a 9-30pm curfew so a 10-30 am start just in case could have been better...And yes we can't control the weather but at least it would give the game every chance.

Tomorrow's a day game, doesn't mean they'll have 4 hours extra time at the end for rain. Will still be same amount of free time as in a day nighter.

And that's where it's wrong, at least give yourself a chance to finish the game. On a day/night game if there's late rain, there's nowhere for the game to go. If you start early and lose a few overs, you have time to make it up. Although the ICC take some blame for their rules.

But if a morning match starts around 3 hours earlier than a day/night match then they should have the same curfew as day/night matches so if it rains they have an extra 3 hours to finish the match properly.

They should, but that's now how the ICC rules work.
