Now I don't really give a ****e about England but just wondered exactly what punishemnt FIFA could meter out in the event of England and Wales waving two fingers at them and having poppies in the shirts? Ban Wales from the next World Cup? Ban England from it too?
The players who want to wear them could have them underneath their shirts, then at the end of the game show them to all the cameras as a two fingered gesture to the dictators at FIFA
personally I think its daft to expect to wear them. The rules of international football are the same for everyone, you're allowed your national badge and your kit maker and that's it. If it wasn't the case every time a country had an independence day or similar near to a football game they would be sticking something on and from there it would get overtly political which is why its banned in fact. No that doesn't apply to poppies and I did wonder if they could use the poppy as the national badge in place of the three lions for once but failing that as I said the rules are the same for everybody we are not being unfairly treated here, despite Fifa's very dubious record elsewhere. Let me just add that I have lots of respect for the Armed Forces and I currently have my poppy on my coat but as said in football them's the rules and have been for years.
Surely rules can be bent to honour the poppy and the meaning behind it. It's not like they're advertising pizza for commercial gain.
Ban England and Wales from the next World Cup? It would probably save us all a lot of embarrassment.......
