Thoughts? So we win the first test in India. A rare thing indeed for England with some wonderful individual performances. The second test is tomorrow at the same venue. So dont change a winning team or if you do then make minimal changes. So here is what i have read. Buttler to return home to have time with his family . Archer injured elbow Anderson rested Bess dropped Replacements expected to be Moeen Ali Ben Foakes Stuart Broad Chris Woakes Likely 11 to be Burns Sibley Lawrence Root Stokes Pope Foakes Ali Woakes Leach Broad
That side is a lot stronger batting wise but any side missing a legend like Jimmy Anderson has to be weaker as a bowling unit. Understand though that he can’t play every game these days at the age of 38.
I think the next test is a day/night one, when Anderson will be vital - so I don't think he could play 3 in 3 so missing this one makes sense I guess. I don't get the Buttler news though. Why go on a tour for one match? If he's spending time with the family then fair enough, but don't travel round the world in the current climate for a couple of weeks and then go back home.
Agreed, Ali's bowling has never been test standard for me and in recent years his batting has gone down the pan as well. It's a pity Rachid opted out of test cricket, he would have done a job.
I think with Buttler it's a mental issue. (I'm sure I read it somewhere he's suffering from the bubble).
Don't forget the Sri Lanka leg of the tour. He's virtually lived in a cricket bubble for months barely seen his family
That's correct, forgot about that. Makes even less sense to come to India for one test - that's what I was getting at.
Tbf the whole thing is different now. Imagine it with Trueman? "Sorry Fred. We're resting you today" "**** ***"
Can understand the need to allow players that play all forms to get time out of the bubble, but don’t see why Anderson would need a rest straight away after one test. An in form Ali would be an improvement on Bess, but not sure how likely we are to see him in form. With Woakes coming in to bat at 8, there would’ve been a case for Parkinson
