Was talking to my other half (who is a "few" years older than me) about the game, and he said that they used to play U21 games around the country, and in an attempt to gain interest from the home crowd, they would have a "nominated" home grown player as part of the line up, (even if they hadn't previously been part of the set up). Dunno how accurate it is, & realise that this wouldn't happen for competitive games, but for a game like Monday night, how good would it have been to see say, Danny Rose turn out? It would be good for the crowd, good for the players (to give them a chance), and good for the FA - not alot to lose, in giving a talented young kid a chance for a minimum of 20 minutes, knowing they may unearth a gem. I'm not talking about any token player, someone that the host club believes is a real talent.
I think that it would be a cracking idea to be honest, but I will wait and see what the Oracle thinks !
Yes, I remember this happening, as I went to watch England U21s play Turkey at Bramall Lane in 1987 and they picked Peter Beagrie for that very reason. It guaranteed a decent crowd. Some good players playing that day - Des Walker, Gazza, Nigel Clough, Paul Davis.
I'm not talking about any token player, someone that the host club believes is a real talent. Yet you mention Rose
Remember my granddad telling me about this, couldn't see it being implemented in this day and age tho
daniel rose as V good potential but hes not showed is level yet for first team. u21 with the likes of jack rodwell, caulker delfouneso ect. u21 football should be tacken serious as a test for playing for the nation.
Well that's two of us then, cos I knew what he was going on about with the car park and agreed with him
He is a genius , I believe he will become the next SAF, or JM, or MB !!! He knows the Bobby Hassell is really called Robert too you know?
F a o ambulent people who choose to pay whatever it costs to park in the club car park, and the whine about being stuck ......... Free car park in town centre, on match days, no more than ten minutes to walk, and quicker to get out of the traffic.
