I don't know how we managed to throw it away. When you get such a vast score, you should be winning the match pretty comfortably.

    Do Explain

Nearly seven an over with the bat is excellent going and should be defended.

the pitch was a belter and therefore our score was a par score,it was a good result in the end.

Can't agree fair play to NZ for chasing that score down but the odds really are in your favour with good defensive bowling when you are defending a total like that a (score which all the pundits seemed to think was slightly above par btw)

    Put it this way...

Having watched the full game I didn't think it was much above par on a tiny ground and the flattest wicket I think I've ever seen. It was like batting on the M1.

Trying to defend a small ground with 20 overs of power plays is a hard task these days. It was only a couple of years ago that South Africa knocked off 400+ against Australia.

There was no margin of error for any of the bowlers. Generally you can bowl a channel or a certain length which means you can set your field accordingly but on that wicket today you didn't have that luxury.

To say that England should have won easily is laughable.

    Really?

Not being much of a follower of cricket, but the way I see it is that if you can rack up a high score on a wicket, then your opponents probably could as well!

You'll have your work cut out getting any sort of atmosphere going

considering no-one's playing at Headingley on the 11th. Do you deliberately type an error in everything you post?

to be fair I only watched the England innings but when I went to bed I felt we had a good chance. Also the general concencus amongst the 'experts' was that NZ had been a bit wayward with the balll and we had batted well so the inference was that if we balled better then we had a good chance. So given what I had seen I was genuinely dissapointed that we had'nt won.Not trying to stick up for the original (DB3K) post just stating a generally accepted fact that its hard to chase a big score whatever the conditions and that most times with a score like that you would expect to win.
