Surely any anthem is better than "God Save the elitist chancer who milks the treasury purse, doesn't pay enough tax and protects her (alleged) sexually abusive family members".
Slow start. A few play and misses, but fair play to the India top order, playing late and not following the ball.
Problem is that the others were bowling too much that the batsmen could just leave and making it easy for them. Curran went too far the other way and attacked too much trying to make something happen. He also has bowled the best delivery of the morning and was unlucky that the edge went wide of the slips.
The decision to field must have been because they couldn't rely on the top order to survive these early sessions. Conventional wisdom says win the toss, think about batting, think again long and hard but bat! Obviously a cloudy morning at lords will play a part, not one to be too negative but we need some wickets otherwise we're chasing the game. Maybe a good toss to loose!
Having put India in... I think it's fair to say finding them with no wickets down and 71 runs on the board isn't quite what we were hoping for.
India's openers showing it's possible to bat against reasonably good bowling in conditions that aren't completely flat, and score runs. Maybe England's batsmen should take notice.
Our bowling has been pretty poor. We quite often have days where we ignore the stumps completely bowling too short or wide. If ever there is a ground in England where top of off should be bowled, its Lords.
