Agree i thought we played some fantastic football at times and mostly from players who wouldn’t automatically be England first choices.
I think those players who withdrew should be down the pecking order now. It’s the only way you’ll get them turning up ironically- they’ll soon be telling their league manager they’re playing for England if they think if they don’t show up then next time they’ll be left out.
Nine withdrew and had Southgate/Tuchel been in charge, nearly all would have been available. It's rather disrespectful that they have pulled out for a rest because they know Carsley isn't sticking around so it "doesn't matter".
Its always angered me as an England fan, when players pull out of 'lesser' Intl games, with lame injury excuses. Kane has spoke about it and while it might annoy some, I think he's absolutely right!. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c1jr97r6e7jo
I get both sides to be fair, it's a **** competition and is basically glorified friendlies. If Phillips, Connell & Humphrys were playing around 65-70 games without rest due to crap international games and they got injured or were burnt out I'd be fuming. But I'm bias because I've always been club over country - but I certainly get both sides of the argument.
