It seems to me that nobody wants to say they are English!!! I don't understand why it is a culture that has been built up. People seem to think its better to say 'Im Welsh' I'm Scotish' then when I enquire 'oh I didnt know...you dont have the accent'...I get the response 'oh one of my Grandads was from Cardif'? Does that make you Welsh? Or 'I'm Pakistani.....my grandparents are from Pakistan'. A big one sems to be everyone wants to claim to be Irish!!! Why do so many English people want to disclaim their Englishness are we such bad people!!! I have been trying to work out the reason. I think the reasoning is complex. Some people just think it is more interesting others genuinely believe they are somehow from a minority in their own country!!! With some new English people I find it more acceptable say when your parents are Dutch to say they are Dutch, but why not be Dutch/English and be proud of your nationality aswell, rather than clinging to the former nationality of your ancestory? Lets celebrate we are a great people! We are a understanding, free thinking, tolerant a people as any you will find in the world!!!
We are being indoctrinated by this damn government into Britishness whatever that is. I'm English FULL STOP
This so called claim for Irishness originates from that stupid fooking lovely person.ry called america where most of the thick ba.st.ards do not even know where Ireland is.

Anyway I'm going to disclaim England too, I identify myself on forms as being nationality 'other please state'.........'Peoples Republic Of Barnsley'!!!!!
I don't want to be called "british", I am "English" end of.... to be called british puts you under England Ireland (Northern) Scotland Wales, but wherever you go, you can seem to be called any of the others, except for when you want to select England. bonkers....
I definately British Britain is great because of Scottish and Welsh ship building, miners, soldiers and the like ... AS WELL AS their (mainly northern) English counter parts Where would we have been recently without North Sea Gas? We'd never have anything other than a Tory government without Scottish and Welsh MPs Believe me as an exile in the south I feel I share more empathy with the Scots and the Welsh, than southerners who see us northerners as second class Englishmen. That's not to say I have Scottish releatives or hope they do well at rugby, just if you ask me who I'd rather sit in the pub with given a random lucky dip of and southerner, a Scot and a Welshman ... I'd pick the southerner last every time. The Industrial North, Scotland and Wales made Britain great. What lots of people celebrate as the achievements of England are actually the achievments of the British. Englishness is London, thatched houses, cream teas and cucumber sandwiches ... ask any American ... and it doesn't feel like what I'm about
ok then, what about..... Nationailty - English (Northern) keeps an identity of being English, but seperates us from the southern pansies (chinny)
No because it smacks of devolution, which I disagree with I don't want differentiate myself from the rest of the British. I have a strong affinity with all English people, but I feel a stronger bond with Scotch and Welsh than Southerners I don't want to be more sepratist. I'm happier being more inclusive and celebrating being British.
I feel no ties with devoluted Scotland, even before devolution. They were the people that spat on me as an 11 year old for being English. They are the people that greet with enthusiasm any defeat of England in any sport. I think England should be given its own parliament, retain its own culture without interference from the Scottish cabale in the H of C or the Scottish run BBC. Contrary to some on here I certainly have more in common with 'those southern pansies' than I have with any other part of this Disunited Kingdom. Those that don't like England as a whole, go north of the border, and experience waht it's like to live with the northern bigots. In concluding this rant, it should be mentioned that if Scotland was an independent, oil fields as far noth as BP Forties would be in English territorial waters, not Scottish. Furthermore, Scotland processes much of Norwegian Oil, due to the continental shalf structure. This is not Scotland' Oil.
