I'm an exiled fan. I don't get to see the team play but I do read the match reports etc. Can someone tell me who our good players are - they can't all be crap?! I always thought footie was a team game. Is there really no hope for the current squad if someone taught them how to play as a team?
Colgan Makes the odd class save, can stop a pen but apt for the odd **** up and cant dominate the six yard box.
I'm probably one of only a few here.. but I'll say when we have our first 11 out (sometimes hard to decide who that should be though) I think we have a decent (note nothing more...maybe enough to stay up) team...problem lies with the squad. We've seen lately that when players such as Howard, or Kay are missing, we have at times struggled massively to replace them. A good example was playing bloody Wobbly Williams in midfield against Wednesday...god knows what that was about. As for player by player...I'd say the 'good' players are: Hassell - quality defender...seems to be able 2 do a job anwhere across the back 4 - best in the middle though Nardiello - has the ability, but is bloody lazy most of the time, seems to be able 2 beat men when he decides he can be arsed. Only likes the ball played to feet! Kay - decent defender...makes mistakes still...but does try and lead the back 4...something that seems alien to Paul Reid - our usual captain and so called 'leader' of the back four. Devaney - has the ability to beat his man, but too often seems to take on one player too many, not consistently good enough with his delieveries Howard - we look a different side when he's missing...seems McCann can (or is meant to) do a similar job, but Howard has much more in terms of his ability, he seems the only player in the middle who can change the game. missed him when he's been out injured Colgan - good shot stopper...glued to his line, doesn't come for crosses...i'm beginning to get a tad nervous the more I see him. Don't think he can talk, as he never seems to say a word to his defenders...can't fill them with confidence! Oh and we DESPERRATELY need a new left back...heckingbottom is crap, and somehow Williams is even worse! And we need another centre half, and a decent striker or 2. I can't be arsed to type anymore...I'll let other fans carry on/correct me. After all I haven't been to EVERY game this year
RE: I'm probably one of only a few here.. Thanks for the info. I'd gathered that Hecks is a donkey but I'd had more faith in Ritchie. I know Colgan's had a few careless moments recently but most of the stuff I've read about him has been pretty positive. What about the youngsters? Anything decent coming thro, what about Atkinson?
Earlier in the season we were playing the best football a Barnsley side has played in a good few years, unfortunately we weren't capitalising on that with goals to win games and gradually the team has got demoralised.
Well... I'm perhaps not the best to answer this... as I can't say I've seen much of many of the young 'uns (I say young un's...Im sure many are my age...maybe older). But the two games Ive seen atkinson play he certainly looks no worse than what we already have, so I think he can surely only improve with time, good coaching, and decent players along side him (hence the need for an experienced defender - an old head to aid him). I've heard good things about the likes of nathan joynes, and michael coulson (both in the ressies regularly - with Joynes especially scoring a fair few goals). Can't really comment on any others Im afraid
I'd read reports to this effect and had faith in Ritchie. I was disappointed that he was sacked but Davey got a couple of decent results early on. There's a very down beat mood on this board but is it really that bad? Is anything good being said about Davey by anybody?
Everyone is **** Because every player we've signed have been from lower league or come from our acadamy.
One thing about Davey as you may have read, is how thorough he seems to be with his planning. Apparently he has reports on all the squad, and has plenty of tactical planning, how useful this all is remains to be seen. It's hard to judge after such a short space of time, but like plenty of BFC managers in the past, he seems prone to making weird decisions including his starting line-ups, formations and substitutions, but then again maybe he's just trying to do the best he can with what he sees as a weak squad. Damage limitation perhaps. Then again personally I prefered Richie's tactics, at least we looked capable of scoring, something that we were never really going to do against Wednesday at least, and showed plenty of fight and courage...again something that wasn't evident against Wednesday, me and my sister noticed the players's heads visibly dropping after their second goal, if it was bad enough the fans thinking we were dead and buried, we can't have the players thinking the same! I don't know what's going on, I never type this much on here usually. Ah well...no doubt it'll be viewed as B*ll*cks by the masses!
