if this is the right word to describe what I am meaning, but I have always wondered where the different names for certain things came from, e.g penis = dick!

Does anyone knowthe origins of the words (and I am sure that you can all name far more than me) for words describing such things as the male and female genitalia? Why do peoplenot use the correct terms and why are they often used asinsults?Youprobably think this may be a sad post - but if anyone can shed any light on them (humorous or otherwise? then I would be appreciative. Thsi has all come from someone telling me that 'taking the mickey' comes form cockney rhyming slang fro taking the mickey bliss (piss). Surely the origins wouldn't be this because 'taking the p*ss' isn't explained as to how it came about or what it means. Intellectual thread of the day number 1 eh??? Thanks
