Me and my girlfriend are currently in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It's been 2 days so far of stunning weather, incredible views, good food and cheap beer. Currently sat in an open air amphitheatre waiting for the Croatia game to kick off, class!

    Highly recommended!

Bergen is a lovely city. It's a bit on the pricey side but it's worth a visit.

Jet2 Leeds to Dusseldorf under £100 each with luggage, Melia hotel a stones throw from city centre, nearly 300 bars and restaurants to go at, £10 for a footie match 10 minutes from centre and as much Alt bier as it is humanly possible to consume.....what's not to like :D

Late September is Octoberfest time and from what I've seen advertised most places have some sort of celebration (might just be individual pubs though,,,LD will know more).

Berlin is cheaper amazingly and there is a wider range of stuff to do besides sitting in the boozer all day like we seem to end up doing

Out of the European cities I've only ever done Barcelona - didn't think it was anything special to be honest. Hope that helps!

If you can call Riga, Latvia Europe then that wasn't bad if you want something completely different, kind of had the Soviet feel with the fairly recent Western influences (McDonald's etc) sticking out like a sore thumb. Interesting place, not very big though.

What would you call it other than Europe?

I suppose I still see it as some little-known place at the other side of the Iron Curtain!

Taking the Mrs to Lisbon in September flights from Manchester are really cheap and its meant to be very warm still and a lovely city according to my Portuguese friends

Taking the missus to Krakow end of August, three nights, visit Auschwitz.

I'd highly recommend most touristy spots in Italy. Love the place. But Florence was the pick for me. Stunning place.

Try Rovinj and Porec on the Istrian Peninsula. Porec is lovely and laid back. Rovinj is impossibly beautiful.

Good to hear, in Rovinj in September with a few days in Pula. Went years ago as a kid when it was untouched. Plitvice and Postojnska Jama still stick in the mind
