http://blog.paddypower.com/2012/08/02/championship-betting-team-guide-barnsley/ Weaknesses: To say Barnsley’s defence line last season was filled with more gaps than a South Korean Olympic badminton team sticking to a story that they play honestly would be an understatement. Their goal difference of -25 in the 2011/12 season was the second worst in the Championship – only basement club Doncaster Rovers fared worse.
To be fair though didnt the same defence have -1 goal difference at 31.12.11 up till our usual second half slump?
Count the number of goals conceded in the first 23 games and compare it with the amount conceded in the second 23. Hopefully that will make things clear for you.
Not got the info to hand but I suspect the reason for the second half slump in goal difference might have had more to do with us stopping scoring goals as much as the defence becomming worse. The goals conceded column wasnt very good though but second half of the season neither was goals scored
But part of it's not having a midfield after Butterfield's departure, so as to keep the ball and shield the defence from pressure a bit?
