Hi all, Just wanted to say that all Everton fans are excited about the signing of John Stones. The only reason for the dis-enchantment amongst the fans tonight (that some of you may have read) is that we were pretty much promised a big signing to help out our push for a good finish to the season and as many of you may know, it didn't happen. I can only speak for myself and hope that this lad, Stones, is as good as you all say he is because Right Back is our weakest position. Seamus Coleman is like a headless chicken and Phil Neville is well.....Past it! I've heard on the grapevine that the deal was a 3 million up front with no add ons and no return loan. Not sure if that is 100% true but it seems to be the main details doing the rounds between the toffee webs. Anyway, from what you lot have said, sorry you're all so gutted and i only hope he can follow the Leighton Baines path and become world class. good luck fellas.
Cheers BDCH,you've got a great young player there...there are right backs currently in the Premier league who aren't as good, just sorry the fee is so low, you'll make a s**tload of money when Sir Alex comes calling!!!
I think you've got to remember that you've bought potential rather than a player that can walk straight in to a top four Premier League side. John Stones is the best player at 18 I've seen at Barnsley since David Hirst and that's over a quarter of a century ago. He looks very good for us, but he still makes mistakes, more than I think will be acceptable in a team as good as yours. I hope he can hold down a place in the side this season, but realistically I think it will be a year or two before he is a regular. In Leighton Baines he's got the best full back in the world to learn from.
he's got potential, by no means the finished article.........thanks for the money we are hoping for a big screen and a sky subscription for the tv's in the East stand and possibly some funding for a Sir Ranulph Fiennes' expedition into the west stand bogs wilderness
I think everyone expects him to make a slow impact. We all remember when we bought Bainsey from Wigan and he was poor for the first 18 months. Half his fault and half down to Moysey who had no faith in him atall. But something in Bainsey clicked and his performances grew and grew. It may well be down to management etc but if John Stones is a natural talent and is willing to put the shift in then it would be great for English football if he gets to Bainseys' level.
He's at a good level headed club with a very very good manager. That can only be good for him, if his talent is truely there then its success all round for the kid and Everton and hopefully England. Just dont expect too much too soon, look after him!!
At 6ft 2 i can honestly see moyes moving him to CB. He loves a good CB does moyes. that could make or break the lad!
I'd say he was a right sided Baines - gets forward well but he's still a bit naive when it comes to defending. Great prospect though - sure Moyes will bring out the best in him
He's certainly not the finished article but has all the makings of a top class defender. He's got plenty of pace and power, is good in the air but also has a great touch. I'd say that his main failing is his final delivery, he doesn't put too many good balls into the box but he's not afraid to swing one in with his left foot, hopefully Baines can help him with that. He likes the odd step over and his sliding tackles are a joy to behold. I'm glad that he's gone to Everton rather than Wigan as he'll have some top players to learn off - Neville, Distin and Baines as mentioned. I reckon he can become as good as Baines although he is a different type of player, much more physical and he may turn out to be a centre half. If he does he'll certainly be a ball playing centre half. You'll have to be patient however, he does make mistakes, but perhaps that's down to attempting to play the ball out of trouble rather than hoofing it. He will show glimpses of brilliance - controlling a high ball over his shoulder while simultaneously flicking it through his legs, setting up perfectly for a first time cross in our most recent game springs to mind. But perhaps that is mostly down to confidence, but being in a successful team should help that. On current form, he's good enough to start in the premier league but he's still very raw. I'm not sure if I'd pick him above Jagielka, Neville or Coleman when he's fit. However, I'd trust Moyes to get the best out of him whether it be this season or over the next couple. I look forward to seeing him play in the premier league and hopefully he'll become an England international.
I have read these comments for a fact. Some of them are very disparaging and really do show the lack of knowledge that supporters of Premiership clubs have these days. I expect it from Man Utd and Liverpool fans. I thought Everton fans had a bit more about them.
Me too from what I read on there forum. One comment was who is this nobody who will be gone in 3 years. A compete lack of knowledge on a player who will become a star. Has a style which u can't really compare him to. Maybe a more skilful Rio Ferdinand, but due to how he can attack a full back I'd think I'd play him there or move him into central midfield to use his assets.
Another Evertonian in peace There will be some knee jerk comments on Everton forums from fans disenchanted at us not making any signings that will help us get 4th this season. Stones is an excellent signing for us long term, but I wouldn't be too critical of Evertonians overall. Name me one forum for any team where people don't moan if their club hasn't got exactly what they want right now? Seems quite a few on here to be honest! Stones came across incredibly well in his interview on EvertonTV and will clearly always be a passionate Barnsley fan f

I can only echo what the majority have said about Stones. He is an enormous prospect, but still has a lot to learn. I believe he made the right choice in going to Everton, as there will be less pressure on him to produce straight-away. He seems willing to listen and learn which is all you can ask of the lad. I hope to see him make his debut for you, and to become a full England international. All the best for the season. Hope you make that 4th Spot.
You should see some of the stuff on here when we sign lads from lower league teams. I'm confident Stonesy will establish himself in your first XI and England in the next 3/4 years. I'll be looking out for him anyway, he's a genuine lad and seems to have a wise head on young shoulders. Personally i'm happy he chose Everton over Wigan - think you lot will stop in the Prem long term (they won't) and Moyes will do for John what he did for Jagielka imho. Think it's a brilliant move for him and wish him (and Everton) well.
Cheers 66 The one thing Moyes does with all signings is research into what the player is like as a person so they fit into the spirit at Everton. Stones seems like a perfect Moyes player. Phil Neville's playing days can't come to an end quick enough for us, but he's unbelievably good as a captain with young players. He'll mentor Stones to gradually become a 1st team player then hopefully an international Good luck yourselves for the rest of the season, did enjoy you lampung Leeds the other week!
All the best mate, always liked you lads and you'll be the first name after us I look for. I reckon we'll see him in your side quicker than some think - he's come on leaps and bounds in 6 months so cannot imagine how good he'll be training with Jagielka, Distin, Baines etc. Perfect move for him. You reds.
