Everton boss David Moyes wants to snap up Barnsley defender John Stones – if he can do a bargain £2million deal, writes the Sunday People. The Toffees boss has little cash to spend but fancies a gamble on the England youth star, who is being chased by a handful of top-flight clubs. The Goodison gaffer is worried about his right-back position – highlighted by Seamus Coleman’s injury – and the fact that Stones could also develop into a centre-half makes him very attractive. Barnsley have so far fended off approaches from Wigan, Fulham and Sunderland for the 18-year-old. But Everton are the first of the clubs contending to finish in the top four to show real interest in this window.
If the likes of Everton are genuinely interested after he's played barely half a season in the first team, he's clearly worth at least double the £3 million valuation our current manager suggested publicly the other day (the stupid sod). He's under contract for the next few years (at least) and it appears he's more than happy to stay at Oakwell for a while yet, where he will of course continue his development nicely thank you. We're under no pressure to sell, and even the suggestion that he might be available for a bargain price is frankly insulting. We need to very politely tell Everton to go and f*ck themselves, unless of course they wish to come back and make a stupid offer that we couldn't possibly refuse. Young Zaha has just gone for a deal worth £15 million, and he's clearly not even going to play in the Utd first team for a good few years yet, FFS! Have to say though, this is what we get for letting the Don handle our transfer policy.
to be fair red, both the don and flicker have repeatedly said he won't be sold on the cheap. we all know if he was at wolves or cardiff, he'd already be rated at £5m. but that's the way it goes. we're skint and have to sell to balance the books. they don't
Attackers always go for more than defenders. Look at the likes of Carroll and Torres compared to Vidic and David Luiz.
What has their lack of cash got to do with anything or is our reputation in transfer dealings so widespread. If we sell for £2m then we should be ashamed.
agree that 2m is half is value. but we have to be realistic. we will accept lower bids than many clubs would. because we have to. revenue was down nearly 30% last year - almost 2.5m. we just made profit, but that was basically due to player sales at the same time, fans demand investment in the squad. so, only two ways that the investment is gonna happen. either more fans through the gates, or player sales. given that stones is the only real asset we have, the Club will definitely be looking to accept the first 3m bid. can't see it going any other way. i just hope we can hang onto him to the end of next season
If League One and Two clubs can play hardball with their best young players (be that striker or defender or in between) to ensure they maximise their profit, then I'm pretty sure we can do the same. Comes down to the men around the negotiating table, oh hang on........
Not been funny but this is about the 11th article in the people about him, what makes you think this one is true? Flicker said closer were getting to end of window more likely he will stay.
Serious question, out of who we have sold has it been proved that the club undervalued. Players are only worth what someone is willing to pay. Hammill 500k (no Choice as he had clause) we made money on him and ultimately he cannot get into a team at a similar level to ourselves. Butterfield (at the end of his contract) got a million and now loaned out to championshop teams. Howard 500k and just released by a league one side and never establishing himself anywhere. Craig davis again had a clause but time will tell. I know it's not as simple as all this and I am just playing devils advocate, but its worth a thought.
Anybody that compares John Stones value to Zaha's needs their head testing. Nathaniel Clyne is as far as you need to look. 3 million with add ons a cracking price.
Just thought we could do with pulling a top team in the next round of the FA cup, it ends up being on TV, Stonesy plays well and gets recognition from the pundits. That should bump him his valuation up even more.
Exactly right KingKlang he's only worth what people are willing to pay for him and all this he will be worth £5 mill next season is just guess work! If we get relegated he will be worth less than he is now because clubs will see him as an even bigger gamble because he's only playing against 3rd tier opposition and his only experience at a higher level week in week out was bring part of a defence that was relegated! If he goes for £3 million with add on's I don't think that's bad business for a kid who hasn't played a full season yet!
