Leicester - for all that everyone calls them the worst side that has come to Oakwelll this year, they played like lions for most periods of the game. They're clearly not a short passing side - but they broke up the play with great effect. They were tenacious what they were doing, they threw themselves into blocking our play, and they were direct in the counter. They started the game much better than we did and the out muscled us - they clearly had a plan, and credit to them, it worked. We got pissed of when people couldn't credit us for beating Chelsea (i.e. it was somehow Chelsea's fault) - we have to credit Leicester for coming to Oakwell with a plan, sticking to it, and seeing it through. For that they deserved three points - Barry Hayles was immense and the goal was all about his physical strength. For our part we were unlucky not to score on two particular occasions where we hit the post and the bar. Aside from that, we didn't look as well organised and we really got sucked into playing the long ball game, instead of trying to work possession. If Leicester had a plan, it looked like Davey had picked the side he thought was best, sent them out onto the field and crossed his fingers. Both teams look awful upfront, but acceptable at the back. Until Barry Hayles came on, there wasn't a striker on the field of play. I don't know what we do in training with our forwards, but it seems like the real basics aren't happening. Nardiello was shocking, and after today's laziness, I hope he packs his bags this summer. Macken is a poor man's Sheron (and by the way I had no time for Sheron). They play along side each other like strangers, and neither one of them is willing to break a sweat to get in the box at the critical time. I kept seeing long periods of time where neither Macken nor Nardiello were anywhere near the box, yet we had possession in wide positions - who the hell are we going to cross to? There were times where both Nardiello and Macken decided to make wide runs (i.e. outside the of the box) - why the **** don't they talk to each other? Who the hell do we have who is attacking the front post? Who the hell is supposed to be looking for the loose second ball? We started two strikers today who don't do either of those things. It was a close game, very workman like, not an exhibition by any means. It could have been the case that Devaney's shot hit the top corner and we won one - nil, but it is not an injustice that it went the other way. I just wish we'd have gotten at least a point. All that aside - it was one bad day at the office - I don't believe that it is time to get rid of Davey, that would be stupid. I don't think we are going to get relegated. Sheffield Wednesday have their nackers on an anvil right now. We have two reasonable games compared to Southampton or Wednesday or Leicester, and 52 is not bad - 55 would have been great, but we are still a long way from being favourites to drop.
your clutchin at straws,i said we would lose to leics and we did i also think charlton will beat us,then it,s all down to the last game!
