surprising reading really, we got spoilt by clarkey and hunter and maybe danny till the premier season smashed his stats to bits,we are what we are it seems and if L J changes this, he wants praising from the rooftops

WEBSITE NOT UPTODATE ON L J STATS IT SEEMS, REST OK

L J stats are actually now 25 9 9 7 and 36 Percent win rate, so better than website says this 36 percent reads okay against most of managers we have had ,so why are we moaning so much

Well I can only speak for myself, but I can only get to some games these days so when I do I really don't want to be bored rigid.

It's L1 for a start off. I'd wager that Keith and Flicker would have had a better win percentage had they managed us in L1 for 20 odd games only.

And for me, it's the plethora of loanees, lack of opportunities afforded to our own youngsters, and the dull brand of football on offer, that's why I might occasionally moan. But that doesn't mean I want a change of manager. Obviously.

Thing that sticks out is the amount of managers we had up to 19 70's then the amount we've had since

I agree with that though I'm not sure that it is all down to the manager anymore. Is it him asking for loans rather than proper signings or his boss telling him that's what's going to happen? Is he choosing to play dull safe football or is he following the lead of his boss?

That's football in general isn't it? It was a much smaller world back then

I think that when we returned to the second tier, expectation increased, which in turn has led to us changing managers more often.

This is an occasion that shows you can't read a lot into certain stats. Like Whitey says, all his games have been in League One, whereas the likes of Robins, Davey, Hill and Flitcroft all came in the Championship. Worrying that he's only a couple of percentage better off than Davey was, in a league above.

Does this just count league games?

Would be interesting to see how many managers we've had since 1970 when compared with other clubs

Yes, I think this is entirely LJs choice. He was the same at Oldham.

Then perhaps that is the reason he was hired? He matches the philosophy.

Hill, flitcroft, Davey, Wilson, Johnson have all played dull safe football hoping for 0-0 draws with the occasional goal nicked to give a few wins in a season

I think you might be right because as I recall this was the major reservation most on here had about him when we were recruiting and his name was strongly linked. If we knew this, then Ben and PC, with all the due diligence they would have done, would have known it too.*

    *hint of sarcasm.

    I don't agree with this.

Hill built an exciting side, we played great stuff but it went down the drain after that January window when we lost Vaz Te, Drinkwater & Butterfield.

Flitcroft was dull when he got the job permanently. He played decent stuff initially.

Wilson had us playing exciting football at the start of last season up to Christmas. Don't get me wrong we lost plenty & there was issues with the team but we weren't dull at all. Cole, Winnall, Hourihane & Williams when he was here were all good to watch.

Wasn't it under hill that we perfected the art of passing it along the back four for 20 minutes then lumping it up front?

Ye in his second season when he failed to replace the good players who left.

Hill in general produces entertaining teams though

I agree I've said that but he does try & play good football. Done it at Rochdale & in his first season at Barnsley.

So that's one season of dull football in about 7 or 8 years of management.

Ah but we have cut our cloth accordingly - Davey spent a million pounds on one player as I recall. So lower level, yes, but not the same budget by a long chalk.
