my clock resets itself to 00:00 26th May 2003. Could this be due to having a pirated XP? And this new piracy thing that Microsoft are up to. Would it work if I turn the auto update of date and time thingy off?

Doubt that is anything to do with Windows

Could be a dead BIOS battery, otherwise I'm stumped.
Prolly worth asking a local PC shop if they could swap out the battery on the mainboard. Should'nt be expensive.

    Just got back from holiday....

and what you say makes little sense to me, but I think I know where you are coming from mate. Since I have come home, when Windows is about to boot up, an error in DOS comes up saying that I didnt save my previous setup. It then says press F1 to continue, then when I do WIndows boots up fine.

I am 99% certain that it is the motherboard battery. Don't go to pc world, they are much cheaper at Maplins.

    Ah OK

It should give you another option, usually DEL or F2, to enter setup.
Reset the clock in the BIOS setup and then exit, saving the changes. That might just do it.

Dead easy, just remove the side of the case and look for the battery on the main circuit board (mother board). It will be about the same size as a ten pence piece, you can't miss it. Simply prize it out and just slot the new one in, kids stuff I promise
