1. Pass ball forward from back 2. Get within 30 yards of opposition's box 3. Pass it sideways 4. Pass it back 5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 6. Chip onto the head of 6ft 4 centre half/shoot over the bar 7. Repeat ad infinitum, with a defensive error or two in there for good measure This way we keep hold of possession but don't actually ever threaten the other team's net. Simple.
Problem is, the 31% that were unsuccessful were all in Birmingham's half. Watching it on iFollow highlighted just how poor our passing is. I don't like singling players out, but Herr Bahre, for all his quick feet, would struggle to pass water. Thing is, Birmingham were just as bad!
We just over play it in every area we could have been playing until easter tonight and wouldnt have scored
If we had come away with anything tonight after that second half showing it would have been a travesty. And Birmingham were rubbish.
I do think some of you are being harsh. We do have lots of possession in the opponents half and get in very dangerous positions but we can’t cross the fcukker and our best striker is generally behind the ball and not in the box. It’s absolutely mental. The amount of times brown gets in and smacks it at the first defender or Chaplin smashes it across the 6 yard box to nobody is unreal in every game. I don’t think we’d be as bad of a) we could defend even the most simple of attacks to defend and b) we got Woodrow up front and signed a decent midfielder or 2 to play with Mowatt because at the minute he’s playing in central midfield with fcukking wingers next to him who have never played there before in their lives.
According to whoscored between Collins, sollbauer and Andersen they made 172 passes, only 18 of those left our half.
I made this comment about how wasteful our passing is last season, but we got away with it due to the quality of the league. Nothing has changed, just that the competition have the ability to hurt us now, where they didn’t last season.
