In a game of attrition. Any time we tried to move the ball about, we were stopped by uncompromising defending by Oldham. Their approach, at times, left a bitter taste in the mouth, but they were only able to do so thanks to an absolutely appalling refereeing performance, ably assisted by his useless assistant in front of the West Stand. I must have missed the rule changes which allows the full back to grab Lalkovic by the throat and push him away, along with the Oldham player manhandling the referee and then throwing the biggest, childish hissy fit seen at Oakwell since Louis Saha for Fulham!
Our lads kept their discipline despite this (M'voto's first half challenge apart) and gave their all for the team. Some of the younger lads were dead on their feet at the end of the match. I thought the back four were solid and well backed up by Turnbull. However, I was most impressed with the two young lads in centre midfield. If the performance of Scowen is to be indicative of his usual standards, Danny's picked up another gem.
The best piece of football in the entire game produced the winning goal. Firstly, a superb cross field pass from Waring (how many strikers do you see capable of producing something like that?). Secondly, excellent ball control and cross from Lalkovic. Finally, a great finish from Hemmings. The lad has come in for a fair bit of stick alately, so I was pleased for him to get a goal of such quality.
The two home victories don't mean we're going to be challenging for the Play Offs, any more than the two away defeats didn't mean we were going to be relegated. We've played better this season and not won, so I'm happy with the wins from last night and Saturday.

As well as competing and winning the ball, the two lads can certainly distribute it as well.
You're always useful as far as I'm concerned, as I can rest my belly on your head!

Thanks for the post pretty accurate. Great win and like you say we have played better and lost. Would like to see our passing imnprove as I thought with one or two exce[ptions it was pretty poor though I guess thats one of the downsides of playing 4 centre halves.
