And what's your outlook on sheep-shagging? Is it for the Welsh? Or for all races that reside in hilly areas? :D

Well said that man (clap) Too many bloody pessimists. They don't appreciate how the club has risen from the depths of Division Four and gates of 2,000 or so. They've never witnessed Peter Burke in full flight. Nor celebrated a Ron Wigg winner against an Elton John inspired Watford. Bobby Doyle and Charlie Chaplin lookalike Kenny Brown. The grief of hearing that we'd sold Martin Gorry and Anton Otulakowski to Newcastle and West Ham respectively, prior to an evening game.............. Ohhhh! I could go on... I bloody could!

I'm quite happy to see us playing decent footie and finishing mid-table in the division where we are. It's where we belong. We are the longest serving club in this division. Not the greatest of acclaims but by far greater than a lot of other teams i can think of. We're not expected to beat the 'big clubs' but when we do it's chuffing fantastic! Whinge about the current situation i most certainly would NOT! At the end of the day we're doing ok in a very competitive decision within afew years of coming out of administration.

    COME ON TARN!

Total agreement. Watching a 0-0 draw against hartlepool without a shot on target from either team. Walking round the whole of Oakwell on one level without bumping into anyone. Seeing Spud get a panicky nose-bleed when he got near the half-way line so turned round and passed back. (I do miss the ancient art of styish 50yd back-passes).

We're OK at the moment and as long as we've got some players who can entertain then I'm happy.

    Spud's nose bleed...................

Can you remember his penalty against Newport? 77/78 i think? He hit the bar and the ball almost landed on the halfway line. the previous home game, against Rochdale, he opened the scoring with a penalty.... i can well recall all the locals enquiring as to why 'Spud' was stepping up to take it. He almost broke the net! Two weeks later; the majority of the crowd seemed to laugh )?)

I remember spuds cros bar incident

and laughing my head off, somewhat ironic that it was one of the few times he'd crossed the half way line in his entire career and missed a pen.

What was it? 2 goals in 500+ games?

    (Y) :D Did you attend his testimonial game? It was a very snowy evening - very cold too! I loved it though; aged 10, throwing snowballs onto the pitch (most of the time not making the distance due to being on the periphery of the Ponty End shelter. Last time i saw Spud he was hosting the Miss Barnsley contes up Locke Park at the miner's gala - he was well sozzled that day. Top bloke!

    oh yes remember it well

he was a fixturein the team when I was first allowed to go with my mates on our own. we'd be there for the gates opening at 1.00pm and sit on the ponty steps reading the programme from cover to cover. We'd move to middle of thebrewery 10 minutes before kick off and then hare off to whichever end we were kicking into once the toss up had been done. No problems with away fans on the spion kop, can't remember anybody bringing more than a mini bus full.

    How did you manage...

To get a spelling mistake into 'excuse' when you were just replying to a thread?

    Jesus well and truly wept.
