YOU WILL SEE A MORE PASSIONATE AND MORE PHYSICAL BARNSLEY SIDE TOMORROW
Posted on: Mon 20 Oct 2008
REDS boss Simon Davey gave his thoughts ahead of the clash with Sheffield Wednesday.Simon said: "We have a fully fit squad for the game against Sheffield Wednesday which has to be a first this season. We have even had Michael Coulson come in and do some non-contact stuff this morning with us, which was very pleasing to see. It's an injury free squad for the game.

"We are all very disappointed after Saturday's defeat at Palace. I thought there was nothing really in the game until the first goal. They took their chances and we did not but we were really on the back foot after the penalty. We lost our way and did not pass the ball well at all. We deserved to lose the game and that is the first time this season I have had to say that. We did not compete in any department on the day and did not do enough to win the game. We did not cope with them and we have to address that. We now have a local derby and it will be full of passion so we need to be back to what we were in the second half against Doncaster."We have players with experience and players with a good blend. We also have players who are willing to learn from things and losing like that in front of the Sky cameras has hurt them. It was not good for anyone and we need to get back to winning ways.

"We have our beliefs and we have players like Anderson, Martin Devaney, Diego Leon, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Iain Hume who will never make us a big, ugly team. We might have to go a little back to basics and make sure we are more effective in the things we do but we will never become a direct team. We have not conceded too many goals until the last two away matches and have been resolute. We just need to take our chances."You always look to your strikers to get goals and Iain has scored three for us this season. He probably should have had one or two more but apart from that the rest have not taken their chances. Jon Macken, Kayode Odejayi and Maceo Rigters have all had chances and we have chopped and changed it to find a blend that will get us goals. I believe in all of them - they are all goalscorers and they will score for us.
"I have spoken to Gary Megson about Vaz Te but I have spoken to a lot of managers about a lot of players. Vaz Te is injured at the moment. He has a knee problem and has also been ill. I have spoken to Bolton about him but I have spoken to a lot of people about players coming here. You sometimes need fresh faces in the team to find a spark. We have tried to freshen it up this season with Jon, Kayode and Maceo all getting a run out. We have to try different things but people are mistaken if they thing that there is a Michael Owen out there just waiting to come out on loan. It is not easy to go out and get goalscorers.

"We have goalscorers here at this football club. They are not firing at the moment I trust them to go out and do well for us. I have had conversations but there is nothing happening.Simon said: "There is pressure on us in every game because we are third from bottom in the table. We need to pick up points and we need to win this game.

"We know that it will be a passionate affair. It will be a battle all over the park and we need to go out and show that we are better than them. We have to battle more then them and then our football will show through."We will have an advantage after they played on Sunday and we have to make sure that we start well in the first 20 minutes. The start to the game will be crucial.
"We have to make sure that we work through this bad spell as a Club. We have to stay faithful and results will turn. We just have to get on with things and make sure we get the right results. We need our supporters to keep the faith and it helps the players when they are behind us. We have had some fantastic times in the last two years and stayed in this division twice against all the odds. We also went to Wembley for a FA Cup Semi Final but we have had a bad start. That hurts me more than anybody but we will work our socks off to put that right. I can guarantee that we will all give 110 per cent to turn this around.

"We are the underdogs tomorrow and we have not beaten them for a long time. It will be passionate and it will be physical. We have to make sure we compete. We did not do that against Crystal Palace but I can guarantee you will see a more passionate and more physical Barnsley side tomorrow".

I Believe for every drop of rain that falls.....

    a flower grows'

I believe that Leon's cornerswill beat the first man

I believe that JCR will beat a man four times then lose the ball

I believe that Barnsley will finish seventeenth

Every time I hear Simon Davey say we were the better team

Then I know why I believe

    We will not go direct...

That amazes me, I'm sure we have on more than one occasion. To listen to Davey tha'd think we were a misunderstood Brazil side....
