Looking at some of the threads, it seems quite common that people think we're going to finish first or second. I'm really optimistic this season; we've decimated that horrible, gutless, lacklustre squad and got loads of kids in the squad or periphery. We've a young, hungry squad and it feels brilliant. The match I went to (against Wednesday) I thought we played fast, varied passing football and I'm excited. But if you seriously think a squad with an average age of 21 is going to get promoted, then I think you need to adjust your expectations. It is incredibly hard to get promoted from this, often physical, cynical league, let alone with such a lack of experience. I hope the optimism I share doesn't burst 3 weeks in as it will be very damaging to such a young group of lads and they need us with them. If we're in the running for the play-offs this season I'll be happy. Anything more i'll be both surprised and ecstatic
My prediction in the other thread of 1st was more based on hope, with a bit of belief that we will be up there somewhere. I won't be turning on them if they fail though, just looking for an entertaining season really, not really got any expectations.
We're Barnsley (second tier) supporters. Only natural we fancy ourselves down here. I just want to see us attack, home and away, develop a pleasing on the eye brand of football, win more than we lose, introduce some kids, and get a sense of the fans and players coming together as one. If that does or doesn't equate to promotion, so be it. But you have to aim high. Had enough of aiming for survival. Last summers optimism was based on a drunken idea that Flicker wasn't lucky. He was.
Just going into every game knowing we have a chance and that we'll probably play to win will do for me.
I think winning the league by anything less than 10 clear points will be a disappointing failure in my eyes.
The apostrophe makes it sound like you'll never win with kids' ___________________ (something that belongs to kids). Never mind! There's been a lot of pedantry lately so I thought I'd carry it on.
Pretty much agree with this. I'd love us to be promoted, but I'm certainly not expecting it. I think we'll see some really good, dominant performances through the season, but also a number of games where the opposition will old man us and kick us off the park. I reckon we'll be top half but lack of experience will probably hold us back. It should set us up for a proper crack at it next season though.
Dont you ever get bored of picking people up on things? Its a famous quote I copy pasted it and missed the first apostrophe, didn't think it mattered seeing as though im not in your school class
It doesn't I don't pick people up on a lot of things, it's just lots of different people seemed to be picking people up on things lately so I thought I'd join in. I'm far from perfect on here myself! It's killing me though not knowing if you missed two out on purpose in your last sentence as a laugh at me, or if it was unintentional.
My expectation for this year is to go an enjoy football again, see the team play good football, score some goals - celebrate and see Barnsley win again. Over the past few years it's been terrible, I want to get behind the team and start enjoying going home and away again instead of thinking oh god not again. Then in the future I'd love the reds to be successful but the past few years I have fallen out of love with going and that's my expectation to go and enjoy it again first and foremost.
Can't fault the original post a top ten finish would be a decent achievement and if Danny and the boys get that they should be commended. It would set us up for a real go next season. If we play good football. Don't lose too many at home and 2/3 home produced players make a big breakthrough I'd be happy.
Got to agree, promoted by New Year giving Danny a bit of time to sort out the conflict in the middle east in time for Easter.
I'd like to see us in & around the top 6. I'd like to see us play passing, entertaining football. I'd also like to see us give the youngsters a chance & not use the loan market. If Hemmings / new striker gets injured then chuck Rose or Nana in, if Brown's injured then give Bree a go & the same for the others. I've no issue with us finishing bottom half this season as long as it means our youngsters rack up plenty of experience. To me a disaster of a season would be for us to finish mid-table or bottom half & end up reliant on loan signings. I'll go for us to finish 6th & fail in the play offs
It will depend on our luck with injuries in my mind...good starting 11, but first choice players in key areas need to stay fit cost we have no strength in depth. And over a long winter in the ale-house league that will be difficult. Sent from my GT-S5830i using Tapatalk 2
