The appointment of Davey after the smoke screen of short lists and promises of 'experience and ambition' is such a let down. It is not dissimilar to the feeling I got when Steve McClaren was appointed to manage England. We clearly didn't get our man. We have settled for second or third best. When it comes to England, we know we are not going to win anything. When it comes to Davey, it feels profoundly like we are going down.

The message that this appointment sends out is all wrong. A full house at Oakwell witnessed Davey's side get mauled by a less than brilliant derby day opponent. Now we've told everyone that he's here to stay. What could have been a shock wave for the fans, a reinvigoration for our hopes, has become a missed opportunity, and a reason for so many to switch off.

And again we feel lied to by the Chairman. Interviews and short lists my arse.

The fact is now, we either pay up and bring in the quality players who can genuinely keep us in this division- or we keep playing these silly games where the chairman gives us ***** and calls it quality.

At least if we'd brought Wilson back there'd be the intrigue and excitement involved. Even those who wouldn't choose Wilson as a first choice would agree that it would make them want to watch - and at least Wilson plays the football we all want to see.

Next thing I'm expecting is grave dissapointments in the January transfer window. I'm sorry, but Davey is not a midtable appointment, and that is really what we need. I've had enough of this chairman - full stop.
