Ali i read somewhere your the expert on the Greek Islands, Im looking for a nice location for a weeks break during the school holidays for a nice family break.Im worried about the loutish behaviour of the young brits abroad and for this reason we usually book a villa or go further afield. If you have been anywhere you could recommend it would be much appreciated. Benn to a few islands in my youth and would like to revisit Greece.
If you're wanting somert wi loads of activities near enough to Athens try one of the saronic islands. I'd say Aegistri would be too quiet but Aegina is good and has two distinct sides. the harbour side is busy cosmopolitan but lacking much in the way of beach. the other side is beach holiday and as far as I know still not too built up. My fave is Poros, its tiny only 1 1/2 miles by 1/2 mile but has some splendid walks and theres a sailing school and water sports. Thats where we're going in September so Mr Ali can have his 2 weeks of windsurfing. Hydra was a private island. Spetses is stunning. Green, lush and beautiful. None of these islands have a Brit problem as none are big enough for airports. The best way to get there is fly to Athens and do a 'dolphin' transfer from Piraeus. I think dolphin tickets can now be booked online. Pop the island names and villas into google and see what comes up. They dont have red hot nightlife but there are some good tavernas an all the islands. Plus points are that you can explore the mainland and Athens whilst you're away. There are lots of places to explore. Another island to try if your looking for something a bit more packagey would be Lesvos. Try Molyvos or Petra. Its a huge island Lesvos town is a proper city really but the resorts arent too built up cos of the geography of the place. Molyvos is very steep but the food at the harbour tavernas is superb. Nice beach and some watersports there too. Hope that helps
