Coming back from Manchester last night got back to Tankersley at midnight. Down the A61, with no warning the bridge over the M1 was shut - the only way to go was north to Barnsley. Up to J37, back down to J36 - which was shut. Down to J35 then through Thorpe Hesley and Wentworth. Got home around 20 minutes later than I should have... If there had been a sign warning the bridge was closed, I could have gone through Tankersley woods and come out at the side of Evri. I could have gone towards Chapeltown and joined the M1 at J35a. I couldn't even turn around to go back to Tankersley roundabout.
That's ***** - I noticed Thurs morning that the bit Iver the M1 at Birdwell had been redone, no signs were up etc.
On my way to work a few weeks ago, I went through 5 sets of roadworks in the 14 miles between my house in Sheffield and work in Wath. It's a 35 minute drive on a good day, it took me over an hour to get to work.
Pretty good chance that Tom Tom would have warned about bridge closures/diversions etc. I never travel without it
When I lived in Reading, the M1/M40/A43 were regularly closed. In fact one time I set off at 9pm and the M1 was closed in 5 places. Five! Even with Sav Nav it took 8 hours to do the 200 mile journey. I turned up at Mum and Dad's at 5 am. 8 sodding hours to do 200 miles.
Went out last year to Newcastle for a gig and on the way back, the A1 was shut near Darlington so had to divert through there and got lost. Then when we got nearer home, both the A1 and M1 were shut so I think we ended up having to go through Ponty and Hemsworth. Really annoying at 1am... Although it would be far worse during rush hour. Years ago we worked shifts near enough at Junction 42. The lad on earlies had been on a course in Woking the day before. He left there around 3-4 in the afternoon and the M1 was shut due to an accident just at Leicester services. He was stuck there for nearly 12 hours and ended up having to go straight to the office to let the lad leave his night shift. Took him 16 hours to do 200 miles.
I made the short trip into Broughty Ferry this morning. I had to pass through 3 sets of traffic lights and all were at red. Had to wait 3 times. I was livid.
used to live in S6 and worked in S5, car journey to work was 4 miles but about 25 sets of traffic lights!! Much easier getting from S73 to S75
I didn't save 4 quid for a taxi home last night and didn't want to break into a tenner so I walked. Avoided all the traffic.
I used to live in Crookes, just up from S6. On a Tuesday night if I was driving back from Oakwell, I could get home from my brothers in Worsbrough in about 20/25 minutes, yet at rush hour, I've sat on Penistone Road for longer than that before because of the lights.
My favourite was when I was on the M42 in roadworks and decided to leave the motorway at Tamworth Services. Half way up the off ramp there was a sign informing me that there was no access to get back on the motorway southbound. Thanks for that, bit late to tell me now. Once I had done in the services I had to head back north for around 10 miles to turn round.
Woodhead is like that at night. I reckon i've got diverted on the way home about 50% of Tuesday night home games over the last 3 years
M621 junctions 4 - 1 have been shut overnight now on and off for over a year and still ages to go. Every night game I’m sent off on a scenic route around and across Leeds.
If anyone is down towards that there London this weekend or heading to Heathrow or Gatwick, worth noting that the M25 is being closed in both directions all weekend between junctions 10 and 11 south of Heathrow. First time ever on the M25 that a whole junction is being closed for so long. It will be chaos.
The Highways Agency, fecking the roads up ALL around the country so motorists are delayed as long as possible. Their motto should be that, are to it ‘we never tell you when we are closing a road…’ they are totally fecking useless
https://www.inyourarea.co.uk/notice...tipe-Traffic-Notices/63ee45f2636d6d001a7badd2 Can't move around Huddersfield either for traffic. Kirkburton has a road shut nightly at 6pm that is blocked off by half 5. Other roads seem to get dug back up a month after being freshly relaid.
