As much as Lewis Hamilton is obviously a fantastic driver, at an early age etc. , it depends performance wise entirely upon which car you're given in the first place. Not like sprinting 100 metres. So why should there be so much hype?
It doesn't depend "entirely" upon the car. A crap driver will not win with the best car, similarly a top class driver will not win with the worst car. But you do have a good point, and comes down to what I think they should do (not that they will) and that is give everyone the same spec (engine, chassis etc) car as close as it's possible to have. Hardly watched F1 for years although did watch last week, but one of the best performances I recall was when Schumacher had stalled on the grid prior to the warm-up lap and ended up having to start at the back - I think he finished 3rd, that showed just what a great driver he was.
well lewis hamilton has finished on the podium every race so far, i can't remember anyone doing that for a while, even people in the best cars like massa havent done tht this season
no disagree ,if you let all the drivers drive that car in qualifying there would still be some that would be faster than others, scumacher proved it time and again when he was racing inferior cars, certainly helps though.
it's also about the car's reliability see a lot of good drivers in cars which seem incapable of completing races
It's an advertising procession Dull as dish water. Give me Motobikes Nascar British Touring Car anytime. You couldn't pay me to watch F1
Schumacher as much as I hate the guy for cheating various people on various different occassions, he was an absolutely fantastic driver. Ok, so for a number of seasons Ferrari had the best car by a mile, but he had to fight for at least 2 or 3 of his titles with them, and he won two world championships with Benetton, who were good at the time but stopped winning immediately after he left, and when he went to ferrari, they were absolute cack and hadn't won a title for years, it was he who set them on the track to the dominance which they experienced. Look how far they are behind this year without him.
I disagree. I'm not a big fan of motor sport - but to me it seems clear that the driver's attributes make a huge difference to the performance of the car. Look at Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello a couple of years back - they had access to the same car, same team, same engineers - Schumacher was clearly a much better driver than Barichello who never seriously made a challenge for the world championship. It is a physically demanding sport - with huge pressures applied to the body, and a massive mental challenge in that concentration has to be 100% at all times. Some drivers are genuine athletes who train just as hard as track runners etc. There is no doubt that you can't win if you have a **** car and you drive for a budget team (just like a star player at a small club is never going to win league titles) - but that doesn't mean that the Minardi drivers would be winning world titles if they just had a Ferrari or a McClaren. For me this new lad is making an astonishing impact and it is a very genuine achievement. He's doing the country proud. Like I said, as far as F1 goes - I can take it or leave it. I might watch the highlights, but the full races can be quite dull.
me its a combination You need the the talent and the Car Alonso is a double world champion - has always been clearly the better of the 2 drivers in his team - look at the difference in results between him and his team mate. Very few drivers would have won the championship last season driving the Renault - it wasnt the best car. The same for Schumacher - and Senna - Drivers that clearly have an edge. What Lewis Hamilton has done to come in and compete as an equal with Alonso in his first season is amazing. Maybe Senna or Schumacher given the same oppertunity would have started as well but very very few others would.
