Whilst I agree that Terry is an odious, horrible man who should never have got the captaincy back the team is hardly full of paragons of virtue so picking a new captain isn't going to be easy. Cappello is weak and will take Terry to the finals so captain or not the divide in the dressing room will still be there.
I cant stand Terry and dont think he should be on the plane anyway but I thought in this country at least we have the presumtion of innocence until proven otherwise Isnt taking steps to punish him ahead of the court case a bit premature?
I don't know, think he'll get a heroes welcome in Poland! He shouldn't have had the captaincy in the first place. It's a difficult one because I do believe in "innocent until proven guilty", however given that the FA have a "kick racism out of football" then it would be ridiculous for them to keep Terry as captain whilst he is facing such charges. Let me use an extreme example - if a school teacher was facing charges of child abuse, would you expect that the teacher was suspended from their position? On a related note though, I don't see why there is a need to have a permanent captain of the national side, by all means the manager can have his preferred captain, but why not just pick the match day team and then select the captain for the game....seem to think that's how it used to happen. At major tournament press conferences these days it seems that every player gets put in front of the reporters at some stage so it's hardly about having a press spokesman.
