can i just point out that no minutes silence was held for the late Johnny Haynes, who might i add was an ex England captain.. yet we have one for a washed up irish drunk.. how does this work??

    Hmm

You've got to draw the line somewhere, otherwise we'll be having a minutes silence when Deniol Graham cops it.

Best was amazing in his (brief) day, and is much more famous than Haynes.

my point is.. if you cant have a minutes silence for an ex captain of our country.. yet an irish drunk who was talented but screwed his life up gets the slience.. wrong in my eyes!! i for one wont observe the silence for him.. good riddance. another week and he shall be forgotten and the papers will be worth buying again!

Did he screw his life up? Yes, he did (after first being a wonderful success, of course).
    Good riddance? Very harsh.

George brought so much to the game. And seemed to be a wonderful man. A diesease took hold of his life and he could never beat it. I for one think he deserves a minute to be remembered. Its called the beautiful game, players like that make it beautiful to watch. No sympathy for him i could understand but good riddance? what did george do exactly that makes you feel that against him?

He won a European cup, played regular for his counrty and is commonly recognised as the best player of his generation and one of the best players the UK has ever produced. Not the achievements of someone wasted his talent.

but if it was someone close to you how would you feel?

personally i think it is sad that he has passed away and everyone knows including himself that he has know one else to blame but himself!

But in his playing days he was a legend and depsite all his downfalls we are talking about one of the worlds greatest players ever, that is why the minutes silence is for him!

he runined his life due to alcohol.. he had all the love and support needed to get off it many times but didnt have the bottle (pardon the pun) all these old tramps on park benches with a bottle of whisky in their arms are looked at like scum.. best was no different in my eyes...

    Words fail me.

Go and walk into an alcoholics meeting and repeat that.

I don't like tarnlad for his comments and will ignore all his future postings as he is obviously extremely ignorant, not very bright and lacking in any kind of warmth or imagination.
When tarnlad has achieved in his life, the tiniest fraction of what George Best achieved in his, then he can stand up and may have something meaningful to say.
What a pathetic person he is.

if you were not so narrow minded

you would see then that it is an illness and a form of depression and when you are like that you don't want to listen to others or be around others.

you make out like he did not try, but until your in his situation you will not know how hard it is, and everyone can only go on what the papers report, which is always the truth isn't it?
