But judging by some of the crap they post, it's just ran by an over enthusiastic kid. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Barnsley-FC-News/1465104140412417?fref=ts
Some Twitter stuff saying he'd sign but that Swansea and Newcastle were also interested. Just rumour, although he's more than likely to go.
The mirror and the Telegraph are reporting that Mason has 'sufficiently impressed' Louis Van Gaal. It's clear that he's not going to be here any longer than this time next season. We should take as much money as we can now whilst the offers are there. I still think £1million (if that is actually the fee) for a largely inexperienced defender is a good sum. Sadly the success of John Stones has raised the expectations of many of our fans now when we have a young player set to leave. Understandably so really as we don't want to get mugged off again like we did with that particular deal.
How's he impressed LVG when they are on a preseason tour is what I want to know. Unless someone has shown him some youtube clips Sent from my SM-G800F using Forum Runner
His Head has been turned and his Heart lies elsewhere. Get the Best Deal and move on. Sooner the better!
For me it's simple. If a club like Manchester United are interested in signing an 18 year old from a League 1 club then he must be worth more than a million. After all they have their own proven youth system which constantly feeds players in to other Premier, Champ and League 1 clubs. For United to be taking a player the other way at that age tells me he has something special. Ergo he's worth more than a million and we are getting mugged off. If there's only me that sees it that way then fair enough but some of the stuff I'm reading about the fee for Holgate being enough just baffles me.
I agree mate. Last week I wrote that I thought a million with add-ons would be an OK deal for us. Having thought about it, I'm now of the opinion that anything less than 2.5 million as the basic fee and we've been shafted big-style. Several big clubs after him allegedly and nobody is talking about the fee being more than a million? This is mighty strange to say the least.
not necessarily, to be fair. £1m to man utd is **** all. they can afford to spend that kind of money completely speculatively, and not bat an eyelid if he doesn't make the cut. i reckon there's more than a slice of the john stones thing though. i personally think he'll play at the top level, and we'll look back and say £1m wasn't enough. i don't think 1m is enough. i'd easily double it. what you gonna do though? it seems like he wants to go. if we keep him, we'll get next to nothing in 12 months. we can't afford to do that really. i don't think we're gonna get in a bidding war. all the clubs will know what bid we accepted, and won't offer much more. it'll probably come down to which club mason wants to join i wouldn't be surprised though, if the bid isn't even 1m
In that case, we should be pushing for more simply because those sums of money are **** all to a club like United. The net result is the same. We should be asking for more than a million. But I'm with you. I doubt we'll be getting that much for him.
