Rumours have it that the 21 year old LB/LM expected to have a trial tomorrow. Unattached. Previous Club Mons Calpe SC (GIBRALTAR PREMIER DIVISION)
Twelve teams I think, who all play at the only stadium in the country. The league is dominated by Lincoln Red Imps. My mate who lives in Spain but not far from Gibraltar says that in general it's pub standard, with a few players who are obviously miles better than everyone else. He says that any male aged between 18 and 35 with two legs would probably at least get in the squad of a Gibraltarian club side. Obviously this doesn't mean that this player is bad, just the standard of the league there is probably like something below Tier 10 of the English pyramids system.
It is a very strange league, as you say. Reminds me of the football you find on the Isle of Man which is a similar standard. It does make you wonder why anyone who stands out in Gibraltar wouldn’t play in Spain even at a low level as the standard is higher and the game is professional, unlike in Gibraltar which I think is still amateur/semi-pro. I went to University with a lad from Gibraltar who was absolutely awful at cricket but still found himself in and around their national side. Incredibly small selection pool regardless of the sport.
Ah.. the old scattergun is back. Haven't we just let a player go to Hibs, who played at a higher standed before he came to us than this chappy? And what about Motley-Henry.. who happens to be the same age, plays in the same position and who is already here.. not good enough? on his way out?.. This is what kills me about this ... going with youth *****.. How many will actually play 50 games for us?.
To be fair , the scattergun has not returned , this is only a rumour about someone who might get a trial , hardly breaking news on sky sports
It could also be someone joining the club on trial with a view to earning a deal with the development squad as opposed to the first team.
