Not wanting to get involved in the whole positive/negative view thread that this came from, but genuinely interested. What makes you say we're in a "false position". As far as I can see, according to the stats at Football365 we've only once dropped out of the top 6 (down to seventh) since we got there 24 games ago. This requires some level of consistency and this seems borne out by Paul D's (I think) running totals of 8 game sequences which look pretty consistent.

I realise this is just a view on the points gained rather than the manner but we can't have just been lucky for over half a season, can we? We may not be playing the best football you've seen at Oakwell for a few years but this is Division three in old money - are we really in a false position to just be in the shake-up with seven games to go?

We're in exactly the position we deserve to be

Not quite good enough for automatic promotion, but better than the majority of teams in this division. We're inconsistent, but hard to beat, hard working and occasionaly brilliant, but more often than not lacking that extra something special. All in all we deserve to be 6th in the league.

With the exception of one or two games at home, Scun*horpe, Oldham, I can honestly say I've not come away from Oakwell many times this season thinking "yes we really played well today", and perhaps the term "false position" is slightly inaccurate, but none the less I think, and this pains me, we will finish well out of the playoff places, we are simply not good enough.
How many times have a team, finishing in the last playoff place, gone on to win a final against a team finishing higher in the league? what is a true position?

The last playoff place is an interesting one. If memory serves then teams finishing there did quite well, at least in the early years, a result often put down to maintaining the momentum from the season and not coming from a low morale position of having just missed out on automatic promotion. Anyway, I can't see that we can finish all that far out of the playoffs given the number of games left to play.

I'm sure that you HAVE come away from Oakwell on many occasions thinking we've not played well but how often have you come away knowing we've lost? No more than once!

I understand your frustration and this is easy to say from a distance but my personal opinion is that this is a division to get out of at all costs and then see what we can build when we're within a division of the Prem. I think a team getting promoted and playing relatively poorly (compared to the level of expectation, at least) can still survive in the lower reaches of the Championship but it would take better, consistent performances to get any higher.
