We keep hearing sound bites from Oakwell saying we're in a false position. They need to wake up and smell the coffee pretty quick, because we are where we deserve to be and are no better than the likes of Crewe, Oldham and Blackpool etc. A naive arrogance about where we believe we should be will not serve us well in a relegation dog fight.
False position after 10 games and maybe you'd think that's fine. 15 games and it gets worrying but that's fine, accept luck has gone against you and a long season ahead. But after 22 games and still 21st. A very worrying position to be in at this stage of the season and at the moment in my honest opinion, we'lll be going to Wigan on the last day of the season fighting to stay up.
The only thing two words that are stopping me thinking we won't get relegated that early on at Bumhole Lane are Hourihane and Hammill lol
We are a poor team. You are always in the position you deserve to be. Luck if it exists evens out. Poor decisions even out. You get what you deserve in football.
I think there's only been one or two occasions where I've felt we were genuinely unlucky with the score line. Most teams were coming to Oakwell & allowing us to play the ball around in areas where we weren't a threat & then countering us when we messed up. In terms of chances created we weren't making more chances than the other team so I can't really say we were unlucky. At the same time how we won that Burton game I'll never know
90% or 98% of the teams in this division are the same, much the same. They use brawn at the back and midfield and speed in wide and attacking areas. We now know we cannot play teams with kids and fancy dan European style tactics, The refs don't help, the pitches don't help any kind of passy tippy tappy, possession footy..........unfortunately. The players know this, the management know this and we know this. We are in "this position" because of our remit of bringing through players in a certain way over a certain time etc etc. Jonno will be given time to get HIS players in this Jan....another disastrous pre season recruitment policy has put us in a very uncomfortable position. We are now playing catch up. lets hope the guys we bring in are better than the ones we let go. We still have the 4th largest budget in this league and Ben Mansford, who I am sure can tie deals up. We now have to show some fight, spirit and some proper tactics, I just hope these players are capable of doing it for a few games before we get the new uns bonded in.
