After seeing some of the brilliant pens in the FA Cup shootout yesterday it got me thinking. Best, worst, brilliant, memorable BFC pens or even saves over the years........... Best ones will make it into next season's EyUp & Down paper copy return. UTR.
Dean Gorre v Oldham (?) last kick of game to win it. Ambles up to the ball, keeper dives - and he scoops it over the gaping goal. Hoping my memory has held up.
You’ll have had a drink!!!!! Actually, you’ve got me doubting it myself now. Sure it was a League Cup 1st/2nd round tie 8ish years or so since.
Wow I remember that game, a mid week one wasn't it? I had been on Holiday in Tenerife with a group of lads and travelled home that day. Didn't even have time to go home properly, dropped bags off picked ticket up and back on the mini bus who dropped us off in town. All that effort then Gorre did that! As I recall though I was too tired to be angry.
Paul Hayes in the Semi at Huddersfield. That run up! My nerves couldn't take it but what a cool pen and again in the final.
My favourite is Adam Hammill's to beat Fleetwood in the JPT northern final. Twice off the bar and in. Belting
I was watching that game on iFollow (or whatever it was called then) in Germany. It was a dodgy internet connection which kept freezing and buffering. When he took the pen, the ball hit the bar, then my stream froze with the ball stuck to the underside of the bar. I'd no idea if it had gone in or not. Eventually it finished buffering and the picture jumped to the pile-on. One of the perils of having a less than reliable internet co
It was. I could be wrong but I think that his penalty save was the first save either keeper had made all game too or something like that
Worst memory of a pen for us had to be Barnard missing what would have put us 2-1 up in the play-off final vs Ipswich. It was the impact that seemingly had on the players as though we had lost the match at that point. Seem to remember Bassett said he couldn't pick the players up at half time.
