Why is Lee head coach? Does it mean he is simply coaching and not managing? PC: we have taken some Responsibility's off him. (Not a direct quote) Clear as mud
No difference according to LJ when asked upon appointment, and no difference to me. He'll always be the 'manager' to me. Head coach my arse.
But Patrick Cryne has stated that the change in title is so that Lee can concentrate in coaching and not the other things that a manager usually does. What exactly are these things? And who is now doing the 'broader administrative remit' that is usually the job of a football manager?
He sighted that in the past the manager would also oversee parts of the academy, be involved in contract negotiations, broader admin, and other smaller duties. The term 'manager', in his opinion, is mainly attributed to solely the UK now and football. In Europe and other countries, plus in other sports, Head Coach is the job title given and they just thought with the younger appointment it was the right thing to do to change. Just reciting the general theme as oppose to agreeing or disagreeing with what was said. Bit of a bizarre thing to do without a full explanation at the time, which would have put it to bed from the off, but I genuinely don't think there's any hidden agenda to it.
Thank you loko. As you say the biggest issue with it all has been that the club have seemingly ducked and dodged the question when they could have just explained themselves. The only part of the explanation I don't understand is the academy part because from what has been said previously by either Lee or Ben it would appear Lee Johnson is actually MORE involved with the academy than ever before. Didn't they say he was restructuring the sides all the way down to get them playing his style?
if you're winning: zero difference, and a forward thinking way to run a football club if you're losing: owner's trying to pick players and the manager is clueless
Really? When we had our winning streak using Burton's tactics I don't recall anyone saying 'this head coach role which has never been explained is a forward way of thinking'. In fact to say something is forward thinking when you don't know what it is is a bit stupid isn't it?
Not you get daft sod. I mean if anyone had said it when we wona few games without even knowing what it was then it would have been a bit of a stupid thing to say
Everything you say there is right, but other clubs that operate such a model also employ a director of football. We haven't got one.
Head Coach Manager Car Park Attendant ? No difference at this conjecture in time. Job Swap at the Well anybody? The lady shouting "half time draw" would stand a better chance of breaking the losing streak! now there's a thought
I guess a coach doesn't manage the finances, or anything else, he just trains the players and selects the team ant tactics, makes some sense as he can concentrate on getting the team into the top 6 (oh, hell I guess that's not working then)
