Thats the BBC for you they get a ratings winner and thats it, it dominates their scheduling. Doesn't matter that they are only catering for one section of the population, if it gets ratings then they spend money on it. just look at eaststenders, a small portion of the country likes it so it stays
Plus I imagine it's cheaper than other styles of programming. No script writers for a start, at least not in the normal sense. I can't imagine they'd have as many people to pay as with a drama, just 2 presenters, judges & studio staff. To cap it all, I'm sure that a lot of its fans pay for it twice, firstly via the licence fee & then via the phone voting.
But hang on To Supertyke's post... if it gets the ratings then it is watched by loads of people, not just a small minority so it does justify itself. To Another Bubble's post... Cheap is good, surely. You can't complain about the BBC NOT using your license fee on stuff you might not like! And although 7 days a week sounds like a lot, it's only half an hour a day during the week. Surely better to broadcast something that could get our nation interested in dancing (with all it's cultural, social and fitness benefits) than endless shows featuring money grabbing property developers fecking up houses. It's just a shame it's another "let's see what celebrities can do, aren't they brilliant" series but for want of a better format...
How many viewers does it get though? I heard somebody mention 14 million which is a minority really considering the population.
Who wouldnt want to be felt all over by some fit young bloke (any but Anton) and wear delicious girly confections that should show you off to your best advantage. Or who wouldnt want to feel Lilia, Ola or Miss Whiplash all over and get to ogle fit youngish women in skimpy outfits?
14 million would be a phenomenal amount in this day and age It got 8 million viewers on Saturday. A 43% share of the audience which is pretty impressive. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2008/sep/22/tvratings.television
It is a large amount but still a minority. And is it better to keep entertaining the same 43% every day or to try to entertain everybody a little less often? Same argument goes for the BBC covering the same sports over and over whilst totally ignoring the existance of others.
I'd give it a go My Dancing ability is probably on a par with Gary Rhodes - why did people vote for him??? - he was dreadfull easily the worst (well apart from perhaps Andrew Castle as I wasnt watching him) but I would be happy to be humiliated on TV for a few weeks <s>groping</s> dancing with Ola, Lillia or Karen and probably most of the rest as well
You're fickle! what happened to your lusting for Miss Whiplash Boag? Erins hair looks better but the overly white teeth & botox havent improved her. Talking of which, there was hardly an expression amongst either the pro's or the celeb ladies on Satdi - most disappointing
