Lots of cyclists seems to use the Dearne Valley Parkway - from Birdwell to Cudworth or around Manvers. You could probably make a decent loop from town down Sheffield Road to Birdwell, along the Parkway to Cudworth or Monk Bretton and back down into town. Be about 22 miles and with some nice challenging hills on it too.
Sounds a decent one, I'm only sticking to Doncaster at the moment but getting a tad bored, need a change of direction.
In that case wouldn't it be better to go the other way round the loop? I'm just thinking that from town to Birdwell is predominantly down hill till you get to Worsbrough Mill and then from Birdwell all the way to Brampton it's downhill again and then after a not so challenging uphill section to Darfield it levels off again right into Cudworth where it would go back down hill. If you went the opposite direction it would be uphill from Cudworth, level, a short downhill section and then all the parkway to Birdwell is uphill and after a short downhill stretch to worsbrough mill it would be a climb back into Barnsley. Your suggested route sounds a little easier to me, the opposite way seems a bit harder. I'd take the easy option personally. ps, that is just guess work from me, i'm no expert on biking.
Bentley/arksey and out towards barnby dun you can pick up road sections of the trans pennine through Thorpe in balne and trumfleet, fishlake and loop back through stainforth and kirk sandal, flat aswell which is a bonus
you sick, sick man lol, I live in monk Bretton and when I go out on the bike coming home is always up hill, just trying to think about hills around you, jossey lane from Bentley up past my old alma mata, d.v.h.s. ( and castle hills juniors)
Pennine trail Old Moor to Wboro or SW to Elsecar - safe too Recomended in cycling active mag this month
Jedi, a good route to do in Doncaster, leave Sprotbrough, head down to Bentley, through Toll bar, down towards carcroft and over to Woodlands and head towards Broadsworth Hall, over to Marr and to High Melton, down to pastures lodge and back into Sprotbrough. Nice
i'm not really into roads, but when I throw the bike on the car and head out to Donny I stop at Bentley park and pick up the tpt there out through toll bar/tilts/ owston woods/trumfleet and back through barnby dun/arksey about 15/16 miles it does me
2 of my favorite cycling routes: Cut Gate Track (Langsett - Derwent/Ladybower - Snake Pass - Strines). Need a mountain bike for this one though. Trans Pennine Trail (Millhouse Green - Dunford Bridge - Winscar - Woodhead Pass - HolmeMoss - Holmbridge - Hade Edge) Got the mapmyride app, but never used it. Probably give it a trial run when out on the bike this weekend because my Cateye is lying in a ditch somewhere around Holmfirth, 2nd one I have lost now, refuse to buy another one!
FAO any road cyclist, everybody has overtaken you for a reason. When we approach a red light, don't use this as your opportunity to nip past everybody again then go straight through a red light. You selfish lovely person. This is the kind of action which will see you end up going over your handlebars one of these days. Oh, and lycra shorts look f*cking ridiculous.
Not all wear lycra You need to get over your anger christ knows what you are like driving a car if these are your thoughts
LDRed, I have a question, what does the highway code say about the space needed to give when passing a cyclist ? please note, I always keep as far as possible to the left and wear the right clothing according to the conditions, I Also follow the highway code when I am on my bike. Are you one of these that find it funny to ride on the back wheel of a cyclist or like to overtake as close as possible to make it a close shave when over taking, then shout abuse out the window as you speed off?
