Although I guess it's open to anyone! Just seen how close the two Dundee grounds are. Didn't realise they were literally next to each other. So - generally speaking, what defines which one you support?
Dont think it is a factor to the extent that it is in Glasgow but I am sure it is a factor. I may be wrong though. Of course, it may be a historical thing but that is effectively passed thro generations as you wouldnt support dundee united if your dad supported dundee, or vice versa. Or I may just be talking ********.
Knew a Scots lad at work who supported Dundee Utd. His dad and brother supported Dundee. I think it's just choice
Hi ya pals. The true answer is to this question is. Dundee were first established and for around 20 years were the only team in Dundee. Now we had a thriving jute industry going in the city and needed employees to service it. So jute barons employed cheap labour from Ireland. So much so that areas of Dundee were hugely populated by Irish immigrants. To give the Irish community something to belong to in 1910 a football team was formed. Dundee Hibernian was formed and our original colours were green and white. But like today things were not accepted and sectarian troubles and violence was common place in the city. Things got so bad that Dundee Hibs decided to alienate themselves from any sort of religious bigotry. So in 1923 the decided to change the clubs name and colours. Changing to Dundee United and black and white. In the late 60's United were invited to America to help promote the game of football there and to represent Dallas Tornadoes and wear their colours which were Tangerine and Blue. On return to the UK the decision was made to keep the Tangerine but have black instead of blue. On the support question. There are many families where the support is divided. The rivalry although fierce is seldom violent. There are some among the Dundee support who like to bring up the Irish/ Catholic connection but TBH I personally know many Catholics who support Dundee and I myself who is a Protestant supports United. So really unlike Glasgow we don't really have the religious bigotry. And tonight I am although a wee bit drunk having been to hospitality and my team winning 4-1 am living the dream.
Get to do it all again on Wednesday in the League Cup at Tannadice. We can never get bored of rogering them LOL
Yeah, but won't all the travelling take it out of you, must be the longest trek in "British" football.
I bet he was saying "Can you ask your mate to get me a ticket for the Barnsley/Bradford City game, too, Ian please?"
