Wow Ian. Did you see that poll for independence today? Extraordinary, and fantastic news. Forgive me; but not only good news that so many Scots are now convinced, but ultimately good news for Ireland and the north of England. Good luck Bud. It’s coming!
Yes I did notice it mate. A reporter mentioned it at lunchtime at Nicola’s daily COVID statement. But full credit to her when she said that while this news was very encouraging her full focus atm was towards beating the virus. Hopefully support for Independence will continue to increase making any unionist opposition irrelevant.
Forgive me for asking, not anti Scottish or anything, beautiful country. But if you got independence, what currency would you use? Would we still allow you to use our currency, would you try to rejoin to EU?( they won’t have you or it would take years). What would happen to Faslane and other navel bases, would you remain part of NATO? It’s a minefield, Serious questions?
ha ha. No pressure Ian. However, the questions are not for you, they are for a new Govt who, for a change, might be representative of the people.
Because for a start you’ve to have your own monetary system I think and it depends on what your debts are etc etc. It isn’t straight forward.
I’m no expert pal but the euro would be available. Rejoining the euro would not be a problem as we will have rid ourselves of England. The last time in 2014 plans were made to move trident to deep water bases in France. Of course London would not want them anywhere near Westminster. But then again won’t be our problem.
Are Spain still planning on veto-ing your entry? Serious question, I haven’t followed that recently and couldn’t find anything concrete from a quick search.
No idea mate. Obviously they have worries over Catalonia and their push for independence. But the situation of Spain vetoing anything is never mentioned here.
Fair enough. The only thing I could find is a letter from a Spanish diplomat in Edinburgh saying that Spain would not veto. Followed by him being fired for speaking outside of the will of his government, yet the Spanish government refuse to make a statement on the matter. I get that it’s not mentioned, but surely it’s a massive problem if they would veto? Especially right now with all the financial uncertainty, is it wise to go independent with no guarantee of EU relations? I think it’s ******* stupid for the UK as a whole to do it, never mind Scotland, a far smaller country of course.
You might think it’s stupid and unwise but after all the recent fk ups and money wasting by the tories lots of Scots obviously think it’s well worth the effort
Ok about to watch the bbc news. Wonder if it will be mentioned? If it is I fully expect plenty of reasons why it would be bad for Scotland and all those interviewed will be of a unionist persuasion
In seriously think that The components of the UK should have more say in their running. The Welsh first minister is wanting exercise some control over the in goings and out goings in Wales during Covid. OK the populace of England is hugely bigger than the other 3 , but some kind of greater control should be given to all countries. I am not sure that Wales,Scotland and Ireland can sustain purely off the income tax contributions of their populace. But there really needs to be a whole re-think on the United kingdom.
