Which airline do you use when returning to the UK?

I'm heading over for Christmas and New Year and was wondering which airline was best and how late to leave it before booking to get the best price, so far looking at £700+

    Thanks :D

Go on skyscanner.net - It searches all airlines for the best prices, it's really good

Pretty sure she uses Thomas cook airlines in and out if Manchester. Have a look at Canadian Affair .... They fly to Calgary ... Think they also fly out of Glasgow, with Thomas Cook.

I'll have a look at Thomas Cook airlines.

I was just wondering if it's better to leave it until a few weeks before travelling to get the best prices or not.

Sorry, been out all day. The replies you've got on here are all correct - the airline that flies direct between Calgary and Manchester is Air Transat. They are chartered by Thomas Cook / Canadian Affair. I've never had any problems with them and got really good prices when we all flew as a family last Christmas but we booked in July time (it was about $700 each, not £700). I am pretty sure the prices will only go up as you get nearer Christmas as they always sell out. I have also flown with KLM via Amsterdam, but that won't be any cheaper at Christmas I wouldn't have thought.

So, are you coming out here to Calgary? Or skiing? Let me know - could meet up if you fancy it.

I had a quick look at Canadian Affair but couldn't see anything for Glasgow to Calgary, I'll have to check for Manchester instead.

I'm heading over for Christmas and New Year, first Christmas spent together as a family for about 5 years with a new addition thrown in to the mix too :)

I hope the snow isn't too deep!

Well, blow me down! Just been having a quick look and I can't see that Air Transat is flying this winter from Manchester or Glasgow. I know they have been having some financial problems, but those Christmas flights are always sold out. It might be worth you checking with an old-fashioned travel agent to see if they know something. Maybe they are planning on running some flights but haven't done so yet? It's all very strange, and not good news for me if they go bust.

As I say, Transat is the only direct flight between Mcr and Calgary. Otherwise you have to go via Heathrow or Amsterdam. Not what you want when travelling with kids, as I know to my cost. Good luck.

I'll be travelling alone so I don't mind changing at Amsterdam(wouldn't go anywhere near Heathrow though).

I didi think it strange that I couldn't find anything on the Transat website myself, I wonder if Megabus do a Glasgow - Calgary bus for £3.50 return? :D

LDRed, one thing i do when i travel to Toronto is to search via expedia. You dont necessarily have to book on Expedia (although i have done often), but at least you can see the flight routes available on the options. I know KLM as CalgaryTyke stated is good and also i think there are a number of flights via Paris by AirFrance.

I've used Momondo last couple of times for flights to US. Just booked Manchester-Boston (via Amsterdam), then to Tampa a week later and home week after for £520 each with Delta Airlines over the US Thanksgiving period. Cheapest I found after ages of searching. Just keep checking every week or so.
That searches through various websites and I ended up booking on Expedia.

That similar route but leaving from Heathrow or flying into Newark was coming up at £550 before.
