His blog is updated daily here............ http://baldyblog.freshblogs.co.uk/ Getting an audience of 140 million on Al Jazeera is excellent. There was this story in the local paper today, which is getting great support........... http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/loca...et-behind-sudders-donor-fight-86081-20988440/
Everyone sign the petition Just read those two links, poor bloke what a sad story. I have signed the petition and think everyone should. My Mum passed away when she was 49 from aplastic anaemia, she desperately needed a bone marrow transplant if a transplant had been available my Mum would not have died at that age, may even still be here now. SO EVERYONE PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION
I'm a bit biased, I think talking about transplants etc. shouldn't be left until the sixth form. I can't see why the subject of donor cards and the reason for them can't be talked about at secondary school earlier, after all if sex education can/is taught then why not how to save lives? I also think that everyone should be classed as a potential organ donor unless you opt out rather than having to opt in. It does seem wrong that even if you carry a donor card that your family still have to be asked and can say NO. Thankfully, the last I heard was, the Government are supposed to be thinking about changing the system.
I totally agree I couldn't wait to get myself on the donor list. Can't see any reason not to be on it. If someone in need can make use of my 'bits' when I clearly won't need them then they can take what they wish. Can't wait to be able to give blood either.
RE: I'm a bit biased, agree entirely Laura. In fact I think they should just take them no matter what. If you are dead what use are your organs anyway? I know when I'm dead I won't care.
RE: I totally agree giving blood is such an easy thing to do. I think everybody who is able should do it! Actually did you know that gay men are not allowed to give blood! Anyone know if gays can give organs?
You've just mentioned something that has always confused me. You can pick up and carry a donor card at any age (although your family still has to be asked) but you can't give blood until you are 18. Blood stocks are always low so why can people be allowed to give at say 17 when they can drive after all some of these people are the ones who are going to need it! Disclaimer: I am not saying all young drivers are speed merchants but it is amazing at how many have accidents within the first year or so.
Seems stupid doesn't it? I want to give blood now but have to wait a few more months. I doubt I'm gonna change so much in those few months in a way that makes my blood any better or something S)
Some religions frown on organ donation etc. Anyone from the Asian population, for instance, who has organ failure struggles more than most needing transplants, as they believe that you need to be buried whole to enter "Heaven/Mecca".
I had heard that actually. I also heard if you've had unprotected sex you couldn't give blood either. It may mean recently but I'm not sure.
RE: You've just mentioned something lol wonder how Young Fearn is getting on with his driving. I suppose 18 under 18 you would need a parent's consent to give blood even if they lowered it.
You can check whether you can give blood here: http://www.blood.co.uk/index.html click on who can donate. There are so many checks that have to be done now to make sure your blood is not infected and safe to give to anyone else. https://secure.blood.co.uk/c11_cant.asp
RE: Some religions frown on organ donation etc. hmmm and Jehovah's witnesess. Is that what Muslims believe? what about these bombers they're hardly in one piece when they get buried?
I would never do that! Trust me, I am a positive person and having spent so much of my life in and out of various hospitals, I try and pride myself on never having wished my illness on someone else, or wished anything bad to happen to anyone. I may have said "why me, but I would never say why couldn't it have been ? instead" Not all teenagers are bad you know!
