The project management company l work for have just got the MCFC stadium expansion contract. Capacity will be increased to 61,000. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...ews/etihad-stadium-expansion-plan-new-6197977
If they're 5,000 short off capacity for a champions league fixture I'm sure they will struggle with less attractive league fixtures with an even bigger capacity to fill.
Apparantly they're planning on something similar to Wembley's middle tier, businesses/fans/plastics buy the seat for 10k or whatever and they have it for 10 years whatever the event. Full to brim for a Tina Turner concert but empty for MCFC v Norwich...
I've got a mate who goes from time to time, reckons it's because he fancies watching some Premier League football as opposed to being a City fan, and he says it's not that hard to get a ticket for most games, so I'm not sure why they need to expand so much. Presumably they will charge next to nowt to for the less attractive games to try and fill it up. Even Old Trafford is about as big as Man Utd are going to need for a while yet - it's p*ss easy to get a ticket for a many of their games there these days, they even advertise on the radio to try and get more people to buy. It looks like some expensive work though that at Man City - I've only ever seen the ground in person from the outside and it doesn't strike me as somewhere that was built with expansion in mind.
