Hi Paul, Matt, I would appreciate if you can give some consideration to the following points please: 1. The live commentary was beset with technical problems for the opening home game of the season. 2. The commentary only started after 10 minutes and then dropped connection (for me) again once more. 3. The sound quality was poor relative to other broadcasts; mono-type sound, some echoes and certainly not near DAB quality. 4. Comment (similar words) from Matt when commentary begins, “technical problems, but don’t worry you’ve missed nothing.” 5. With respect Matt, yes I did miss something! 6. I really appreciate the pre-match build up, especially before the start of an exciting new season. I was looking forward to the usual discussion between Matt and Adam on pre-season, new players, the formation etc. 7. And our warm-ups seem to be quite eventful at the moment! 8. There was no Player text service available last Saturday. Why? Matt, you have received at least one text about the technical problems. 9. Is it possible to use the Player text service for such technical feedbacks, or via some other means to the commentary team? It is frustrating when you have no idea what, and if, there is a problem from the ground. An “official” message via the BBS perhaps? 10. I can also recall Calgary Tyke, Michigan Red, Prince of Risborough and others all having similar problems. Thanks to the BBS we are able to share progress or solutions between us! 11. Lastly and overall, I really value and appreciate my Player subscription so please take the above comments constructively. In the last 12 months or so the content and quality of Player has improved significantly and is an essential service for expats like me, much to the chagrin of my wife at times! You Reds! Mark
I couldn't get on at all at the weekend - but it looks like it's a central / subscription issue that I need to fix before the next game (I renewed in May but it kept directing me to the sign-up / payment screen). So, I cannot comment on the issues above because I didn't get to sign in!
Mark there was a technical issue with the ISDN line coming in which was eventually sorted out. They will be looking into your comments about sound quality. If it is ok on Tuesday we will know that it is a problem with the ISDN box at Oakwell rather than the equipment. There was also a power problem with the mobile phone that should be sorted. (They dont work without charge apparently!) By the way any Player technical issues can be reported to Mark.Stokes@barnsleyfc.co.uk and this will be your best bet during/before a game
I had the same problem last week, ended up asking for my user name details then changed password and got in after that, eventhough I hadn't forgotten my details and knew I'd re-subscribed.
Gally, when you say a problem with the 'ISDN' - do the club actually still use ISDN ie the connection type that pre-dates even the slowest broadband connection by several years or has the term just continued use in the broadcasting field and it actually means a broadband connection?
Yes its ISDN, essentially a digital phone line, which is still used by broadcasters all over the place.
Wow! If I ever find myself in a position where I can afford to employ a PA, you will top of head hunt list!!
Had to sort out my Dad at the weekend - his subscription had expired but when he tried to log in to put in the new gift code I sent him instead of any sensible message it just took him straight to the new registration pages I had a stab at the reset password option - set it back as it was but then he could login fine and got a sensible prompt to renew - put in the new code and all worked as it shoudl Looks like a few gremlns in the works. -
