My brother lives in Hoyland and says an archaeological dig is taking place behind the old town hall in the centre of Hoyland.

Apparently they were digging up one of the car parks and have found remnants of an old building and human skeleton bones.

    You any info on this?

This kind of stuff always fascinated me.

    Hello, old mate.
No, I'm not a part of that excavation, but I too would be interested in any forthcoming information. As it is, I specialise in ancient archaeology (pre Roman), so it sounds it'd be outside my particular sphere.

Not sure how old Hoyland dates as a village.

I do believe where the town hall is now used to be a clock tower named Old Martha but that is only going back some 150 years at most. Prior to that i am not too sure of Holland history.

I must confess I'm totally ignorant about Hoyland, and it's history, as a village.
