Got an email from someone I used to know. Anyone got any advice?

Nephew going to London. He is looking for advice.

My 27yr old nephew is going to London for a week in late January of 07. He has never been to Europe and is just going as a tourist. He wants to see some normal tourist stuff, but also wants to check out some good local rock and punk bands at bars or clubs. Not dance clubs mind you, but live rock shows. He lives in NY city now and is always going to shows there. Does anyone know of good bands that are playing around then or maybe those type of clubs he can check out? Are there areas he should steer clear of or places he shouldn't miss?

Please keep in mind he will not have a car. Oh yeah, I already told him if anyone asks he is from Canada. Thanks, Mark

One of the LT lot manages a rock band - he should know - I'm sure one will be along shortly to answer the query.
Here you go..... Most tickets for best bands go on See Tickets
You can search by town here: http://www.seetickets.com/see/event.asp?o|ventown=&n|artist=null&resultsperpage=20&search=town&filler1=see&filler2=advanced-town
Also try ticketweb.co.uk also a good site and should be able to search by town or venue.
If searching by venue you want Astoria, Hammersmith (either apollo or palais), Brixton Academy, mean fiddler, islington academy, Koko, electric ballroom (in fact anywhere in CAMDEN) for that type of music.
NME.com is also good for gig news and sell tickets direct.

RE: Here you go..... Cheers pal.
And of course, Ye Olde Axe on Hackney Road. An unmissable London attraction.

Intrepid Fox in Wardour St. used to be a good pub for Rock/indie/punk but I've not been in for about 15 years so it's probably a wine bar now!
RE: Intrepid Fox in Wardour St. used to be a good pub for Rock/indie/punk hello granddad what about your favourite indie club at LSE
