Hayes has scored 6 and has 9 assists in the league this season, overall we have socred 59 in the league so he has contributed to over a quarter of our goals this season! but yet he is still shi*e according to some fans! Nards yesterday was very good and put in the effort he normally misses, however big difference is and i've said this alot is when nards beat 2/3 men in the second half and went for glory he could have squared in to Wright for an open goal but chose to shoot himself, whereas Hayes against Oldham does the same but squares it to McPhail to secure the win for us, if nards had of squared it we would have been 3-0 up and had an extra 2 points!
By the same token When Nardiello was clear through on goal against Swansea , he finished with aplomb . Whereas , when Hayes was through against Chesterfield ( at a far better angle ) , he didn't even find the target . Yesterday Nardiello SHOULD have squared the ball , but didn't . However , strikers are primarily judged on the goals they score . Hayes' goal return for the number of starts he's made is poor . Thankfully , he does bring other qualities to the team . Both are still in their early twenties , neither are the finished article , both have areas in their game they need to work on .
In creating McPhails goal on Sat Hayes proved beyond a shadow of doubt that he is a class above. he may have only scored 10, but he must've put at least that on a plate for his team mates. lets not f.ck abart: Hayes and Richards.
RE: By the same token agree with you there on that one, would be good if you could combine the two strikers qualities, hayes vision/touch and nards finishing but to be fair Nards has missed a few 1 on 1's before
Oh I agree I don't understand why the two can't be selected as a partnership . The argument that they'd be two lightweight simply doesn't wash . That was the same argument levelled at McPhail when it was suggested by some to play him in the centre of midfield . "He doesn't run around enough , he doesn't use his right foot enough , he's too lightweight for this division". Well McPhail proved that these so-called experts talk utter garbage and I'm convinced that a Hayes/Nardiello would do the same . They have superior technique to the other strikers and their movement and thought would be a constant threat to lumbering centre halves , who only show their true worth when they're faced with a physical battle .
Hayes is not lightweight, on sat although he didnt score himself he put himself about a lot, won tackles, took players on and beat them, set up at least one goal, partner him with Nads for the best results IMHO, trouble with the richards/Hayes partnership is they are too similar and neither are prolific goalscorers
Yes, cheers bit ropey yesterday, took my nephew to Morecambe but didnt feel too good, i think the 2 hour trip in Ians mini bus would have had dire consequences lol
Both fairly strong, both capable of holding the ball, creating chances but not as good at finishing, look at richards two goals v forest, strong on the ball, beat defenders, often does this but doesnt score so many, hayes is similar, he's a big strong lad and in recent games (i did miss yesterday though) has impressed me a lot, bit like Wilko in the promotion season, and remember the stick he used to get for not scoring enough goals
